We are deeply saddened by the passing of Peter Finn. Peter was a founding board member of the Viking Pride Foundation and a true, unwavering supporter of co-curricular activities and the students of Winthrop. His dedication, generosity, and belief in our young people helped shape the foundation. Peter could always be found in the stands supporting his children and their teammates at athletic events. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with the Finn family and all who were fortunate to know him.

🎥 Viking Pride Foundation Archives Project 🎥
The Viking Pride Foundation is excited to announce that we’ve begun working to preserve decades of Winthrop Public Schools history by transferring old VHS tapes from the school archives into digital format — and eventually uploading the best ones to YouTube for everyone to enjoy!
We need YOUR help, Vikings! 💙💛
We have hundreds of tapes, and we’re trying to identify the most meaningful games, performances, ceremonies, and events to prioritize. Please take a look at the titles in the photos we’ve posted and comment below with anything you recognize or would love to see digitized. PLEASE BE SPECIFIC, we can’t do entire years!
This is a big project and will take us a few months (and some funding!) to complete, but the end result will be a preserved digital history of Winthrop kids, teams, and memories for generations to come.
Thank you, alumni and friends, for helping us bring these moments back to life!

The Viking Pride Foundation was proud to support the Winthrop High School Drama Society with funding for new stage equipment used in last week’s production of Hadestown: Teen Edition at the Neil Shapiro Center for the Performing Arts! 🎭 This investment will enhance productions for years to come. 💙💛

Very sorry to hear of the passing of longtime athletic director Jim Evans. Jim was a pioneer in the field who ushered in title IX reforms and really grew women’s programs at WHS. He will be deeply missed.
It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of long-time WGC member, James R. “Jim” Evans.
Jim was more than just a member, he was a passionate advocate for student-athletes, a leader who championed equal opportunities in sports, and a man who inspired generations both on and off the field. At Winthrop, and far beyond, he was affectionately known as “Coach” or “Mr. Evans,” a testament to the respect and admiration he earned throughout his life.
Even in retirement, Jim remained a beloved figure in the community, always carrying himself with warmth, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to others.
Our hearts are with his family and friends during this difficult time. Jim’s legacy of dedication, mentorship, and love for the game will always be remembered here at WGC.
💚 Rest in peace, Coach Evans.

“A true teammate leaves a legacy not in trophies, but in the lives they touched and the spirit they carried.”
The Viking Pride Foundation extends our deepest sympathies to the Riley family on the passing of Leonard “Lenny” Riley, Winthrop High School Class of 1963. Lenny will always be remembered as one of the greatest to wear a Vikings uniform, co-captaining the State Championship team and later entering the WHS Hall of Fame with his teammates.
In his honor, flowers have been placed in the former high school gym where he once inspired a community with his play, his leadership, and his spirit. His legacy as both a champion athlete and a devoted family man will live on in Winthrop forever. Rest peacefully #4.
