Winthrop Parent Teacher Organization Parents and Teachers of Winthrop, ME Students Why should I volunteer? PARENT INVOLVEMENT IS PRICELESS!!! Why do we have fundraisers and where does the money go?

We are a group of everyday parents with a zeal for fund-raising and making memories that last a lifetime for students of Winthrop Public Schools. When you volunteer in the PTA, you are making a difference in the quality of education that our students receive. Statistics show that students whose parents volunteer at their school perform better in school. PTA members also play an intricate part in enriching the experience of the families whose children attend our schools. Any funds raised by the PTA are utilized to support Winthrop Grade School and the Middle School. Some of the funds are utilized for program incentives, grants to our teachers, and educational materials they otherwise may not have in the classroom. Do I have to attend meetings to support the PTA? All parents, teachers, and staff are welcome and encouraged to attend, but you do not have to attend the meetings to support the PTA. Our meetings include reports on funds and activities supported by the PTA. The meetings are also a forum to discuss new ideas and issues. Meeting dates and times will be posted on our website and meeting notifications will be sent home to keep families informed. What can I do for the PTA? The PTA has many opportunities for parents, teachers, and staff to serve our school. The primary way is through volunteering. All PTA events and programs are organized, funded, and administered by members. There are many volunteer opportunities available from leadership, setting up tables, creating bulletin boards, baking for events, etc. We welcome all participation!

At this months meeting someone brought up the new school zone lights and then not working yet. We reached out to the superintendents office for more information. This was the response from Joel Stoneton, WPS facilities manager:

“Here is the most up to date information on the lights.

DOT has determined that the signs on Main St are no longer enforceable, or legal according to State guidelines. So we installed new ones on Highland Ave. We are waiting to get the new lights programed they should be up and running within the next couple weeks.

Spoke with the installer and he is connecting with office Delaney to ensure proper programming

Should be resolved very soon”

Unfortunately, we are going to have to forgo the contest this year due to lack of participation. However, if you’d like to donate to the Winthrop Food Pantry, they can always use the following items:

-Canned Fruit (peaches, pears, fruit cocktail)
-Peanut Butter
-Canned Beans
-Canned Soup
