Finding Balance
This teapot is a reflection of the struggles and joys of a lifen a personal exploration of my own journey toward finding balance.
Throughout my life, I have struggled with depression, anxiety, and the challenge of finding calm within the noise. Learning to ask for help, create healthy habits, and make space for joy has been an ongoing journey. I have come to believe that finding balance does not mean eliminating the difficult parts of life. Instead, it means learning to hold both the darkness and the light, allowing each to have a place.
The heavy, tangled, vine-like elements of the handle represent the struggles that can feel complicated, overwhelming, and difficult to escape. In contrast, the soft, light-colored feathers represent happiness, peace, and moments of joy. Each has its own beauty, and together they represent the intertwined nature of our emotions and experiences.
The white handle on the lid represents my safe space. My home, where I can find comfort and restoration. The butterfly represents myself, while the smaller butterflies surrounding it represent my people: my family and those who provide love, support, and a sense of safety. They remind me that I do not have to navigate the difficult parts of life alone.
The two matching cups carry both the soft feather and the dark vine, reflecting how closely our difficult and joyful experiences can be intertwined. The white and soft yellow tones, like your tea, represent the safety, warmth, and calm that can help us find our way when we feel lost or overwhelmed.
Ultimately, this piece is about hope, an everyday practice. I believe that, with love, support, self-awareness, and the willingness to seek help, balance can be found. The darkness does not erase the light, and the light does not deny the darkness. Both are part of the story and both can hold beauty.
