This is when you know you’re making a difference! 🤩

While at home last night, one of our students struggled to read a word. Instead of simply moving on, she took the initiative to write the word down and bring it with her today so we could work on it together.

That may seem like a small thing, but to us, it’s HUGE! ❤️

It shows that she is beginning to recognize when she needs help, take ownership of her learning, and understand that struggling with something doesn’t mean giving up—it means finding a way to figure it out.

These are the moments that make what we do so incredibly rewarding! 🥰📚

📚 “I want my child to have Orton-Gillingham.”

I hear this all the time—but here’s something every parent and educator should know:

Orton-Gillingham (OG) is NOT a program. It’s an approach to teaching. 🧠✏️

There are many different programs, curricula, and approaches with roots in or connections to the Orton-Gillingham tradition. Wilson Reading System, Slingerland, Take Flight, IMSE Orton-Gillingham Plus (OG+), and Alphabetic Phonics are just a few examples—not an exhaustive list.

And here’s another important piece: “OG trained” can mean very different things. Training may range from introductory coursework to extensive supervised practice, certification, advanced training, and years of experience.

So instead of simply asking, “Is this Orton-Gillingham?” try asking:

🔹 What specific program, curriculum, or approach is being used?
🔹 What training has the instructor completed?
🔹 How much supervised practice and experience do they have?
🔹 How is instruction individualized for my child?

The letters “OG” don’t tell the whole story. The training, knowledge, experience, and delivery matter. ❤️
