Jeremiah Project

The Jeremiah Project has served over twenty-five hundred students during the course of our eighteen-year tenure. The Jeremiah Committee, staff, and the Board of Trustees have decided the Jeremiah Project in its current form will end as of August 1, 2021. COVID-19 and many other factors contributed to our decision to close the program. It has been a rough couple of years for our organization and many others. But we leave with a full heart for having participated in an opportunity of a lifetime. Click here to read more about the Jeremiah journey-

It has been more than a year since The Jeremiah Project stopped in-person programming due to COVID-19. We eagerly await a return to normalcy. We miss the students terribly. In the meantime, we are celebrating our 11th remote learning video. We have been able to reach so many students through our partnerships with the the Boys and Girls Clubs and the Winter Park Community Center using these videos and a system of drop off and pickup of clay, tools, supplies and finished products. These pictures mean so much to all of us at The Jeremiah Project, even more so since we did not see these smiles in person! Our virtual prgamming is going great but we can’t wait until COVID-19 recedes and we can get back to teaching in person!

Meet Leah Banks our newest Jeremiah team member. Jeremiah has gone virtual and Leah is our on the ground staffer and teacher at the Levy-Hughes Boys & Girls Club in downtown Orlando. She is doing such a great job bringing the creative arts to kids.

We are excited! The staff of the Jeremiah Project met virtually today to discuss contactless programming for the fall. We are so grateful for the great ideas that were generated that will help us to fulfill the mission of Jeremiah during the time of Covid-19.

Why is Score and Slip necessary? - This video explains a fundamental handbuilding technique called “score and slip.” Perhaps even more importantly, it explains WHY score and slip is crucial for the success of a handbuilt piece. It describes two scientific reasons why attaching two pieces of clay requires extra care to ensure that the pieces don’t separate. It also gives a beautiful close-up demonstration of a potter using the technique of score and slip.

Some of our favorite moments happen at the end of a session when projects are finished and most of the cleanup has been done and a student who is just brimming with creativity quietly sits off to the side with a small piece of clay and creates something all their own. This ☃️ family was created in one of those moments.

These hanging planters were made by the fun-loving and hard-working student artists that we have been working with at Lockheart Middle School. Everyone is so happy with the results!
