【ｅｄｕｃａｔｉｏｎ】This photo represents what I’ve been working towards for the past 10 years. I opened 7 years ago to be a place that has a positive impact (affect) on the community and that includes hairstylists. Coming together to learn, challenging our views and skills, is tough when your environment doesn’t foster good. I’ve been in classes where stylists are torn down never to be rebuild. Where crying is a badge of success. Where everyone is in competition and clashing with each other and the leaders wanted it that way. That the work done will always be diminished because success is not to the benefit of those teaching. The people I met along the way, those connections to like minded, talented, and caring stylists are exactly why I did it for so long. I’m so incredibly proud of this result (effect). It has cost me a lot, in every way imaginable. But when the world is grim, at least I have this space and the community I’ve collected along the way (clients, friends, stylists, educators, followers, etc). It’s a home for those who want to see good and leave this world better than they found it. The quote that pushed me to do this and what stands true through the last 8 years, when I got this crazy idea to open a salon, “Be the change you want to see.” This little space is my life’s work and I’m grateful for that.

【Ｃｏｌｌａｂｏｒａｔｉｖｅ】
Building a team of like minded, independent, and equally talented stylists that trust each other enough to swap services has not been easy. I feel very lucky to have my team. But I also know that it wasn’t luck. It really required me to work on myself (therapy) being held accountable and being open to listening to their concerns as easily as accepting new ideas. I’m grateful to be here and I’m excited to see where it all goes.

【Ｒａｖｅｎｓ】 Recognizing faces, ravens utilizing what deals would suit them, remembering who fed better. They weigh just over 2 pounds. They can communicate vocally being taught to speak about 100 words, a dog can learn about 165. Ravens also using their beaks to point and will hold up objects to each other in communications. They mate for life but also are known for playing, creating toys, and hold grudges (against animals and people)

【ｆｏｘｇｌｏｖｅ】 in 1890, Van Gogh painted his doctor holding a foxglove flower. During this time, digitalis was a commonly used treatment, extracted from foxgloves, but can be toxic. Patients on large and repeated doses see world with a yellow-green hue, or yellow spots/ halos. The effects have been suggested as the cause of Van Gogh’s “yellow period” and the sky he painted in The Starry Night. Another symptom is uneven pupils which is seen in one of Van Gogh’s self portrait.

【ｆｌｙ　ａｗａｙｓ】Hairspray is a great option for setting and holding styles, but it can also help hair appear smoother by keeping flyaways down. Rather than spraying them down, apply the spray to the hand and smooth the hairs into place.

【Ｃｏｔｔｏｎ】 The full plant of cotton is used, the seeds are used for animal feed and human use (cottonseed oil). The plant stalks are tilled back in the soil after harvesting, maturing in about 6 months. Cotton has a neutral carbon foot print. The amount of CO2 removed by cotton plants worldwide is equivalent of taking 7 million cars off the road. Cotton is 100% biodegradable and is compostable. In the U.S. 64% of the cotton is grown by naturally falling rainfall and irrigation water use has declined by 75%.

【Ｙｅｌｌｏｗ】 Taxi entrepreneur, John D. Hertz, painted his taxi’s yellow based on a University of Chicago study alleging that yellow is the color most easily seen at a distance. Yellow helps activate the memory and has positive effects when studying. But when used in a babies room, it often leads to more crying. Natural pigments of a yellow colour can be made from ochre, saffron, turmeric and Garcinia tree resin.
