Our goal is to provide students with a classical education of the highest quality and to create a private school which is a model of excellence in both academics and Christian character. Highlands Latin School is a Classical, Traditional and Christian school whose aim is to draw students to Truth, Goodness and Beauty, while seeking Wisdom and Virtue. Opening this upcoming year K-8th grades, with a

reduced-week plan, allowing for more family engagement.

-Phonics Based Reading Program, with goal of students reading by January of their Kindergarten year.
-Mastery of Math Facts in the early grades 1-18, with mastery of other skills
-Cursive Penmanship beginning in 1st grade
-Latin beginning in 2nd grade
-American History integrated throughout academic career
-In depth Nature Studies
-Organized Curriculum that is integrated between subjects and between grade levels.

This past Saturday, the Highlanders Advance welcomed new leaders and members into the Houses of Andrew, David, George, and Patrick. Last Saturday, our 3rd-8th graders experienced our inaugural Highlanders Advance, where they were officially sorted into our House System—a tradition at HLS where camaraderie and competition come together. ⚔
There are four houses at Highlands Latin School: David, Andrew, Patrick, and George. Modeled after the traditional British school structure, the system gives students a feeling of belonging and an opportunity to lead. Each house has three leadership positions: Head of House, Minister of Culture, and Minister of War, which are student-held and appointed by HLS administration.
During the year, house points are awarded based on four categories:
🏅Academics
⚽Athletics
🤝Community Service
🔥 Spirit
The points encourage students to aim high, serve well, and be kind. Every effort contributes to a house's standing and the chance to claim the cup. 🏆

The 2026-2027 school year has begun! A school doesn't come to life until students are present; we are grateful for our families and students that helped usher it in. The first day of school is important, and Opening Ceremony helps set the tone for the year, and reminds us of its gravitas.

In anticipation for the 152nd Kentucky Derby “Run for the Roses” and in support of our main campus in Louisville, Kentucky, we hosted our inaugural HLS Derby Day! From Constantine to Horatius, Nero and Julius Caesar, our fourth graders recently took to the stage and performed "Famous Men of Rome" for the HLS community. Afterwards, they celebrated with a beautiful spread at their Roman banquet. We are so proud of their hard work and dedication! Our HLS students not only reached their schoolwide goal of 50,000 minutes read for the Read-a-Thon, they surpassed it. Our school read over 77,000 minutes, which called for a celebratory ice cream treat! Job well done, bookworms! 🐛📚🍦
