This OB admits to not understanding what birth can be like when people let brothers do their thing uninterrupted. Until he go to see an uninterrupted birth.

At The Nesting Place - Orlando, FL we help you understand the natural process of undisturbed birth. So you can feel confident making the choices that are right for you whether that is in OR out of hospital.

Birth belongs to birthers, not providers.

So come learn how you can take control of your birthing time and birth on your terms. Because and as I like to say...when you KNOW better, you BIRTH better.

In case you didn't know...

A few facniating plancenta facts that you may not know about:

1. It is made from both parent and baby—but controlled by the baby. The placenta originates from the embryo (baby’s DNA), not the mother. Yet it embeds into the mother’s uterus and interfaces directly with her blood.

3. Maternal and fetal blood never actually mix. Despite being millimeters apart, blood stays separate. The placenta acts as a sophisticated exchange membrane, passing: Oxygen, Nutrients, Antibodies, and Hormones while filtering many toxins and pathogens.

4. The placenta can override the mother’s biology. It releases hormones that: Increase maternal blood volume, alter insulin sensitivity, redirect nutrients to the baby—even if the mother is undernourished. In survival terms, the placenta often prioritizes the baby at a real metabolic cost to the mother.

5. It functions like multiple organs in one. The placenta acts as:
- Lungs (oxygen exchange)
- Kidneys (waste removal)
- Liver (nutrient processing)
- Endocrine gland (hormone production)
- Immune organ (antibody transfer)

The placenta isn’t just a support system.
It’s a temporary, intelligent life-bridge—part baby, part mother, part miracle.

If you are late to your birth preparation plans and are out of time to take a more comprehensive course, Spinning Babies is always a beacon of gentle and effective "physiology before force".

Babies and bodies usually work together well in birth - especially when birth givers become aware of just how powerful their own movement can be in bringing calm to their process and optimal alignment to their babies.

Check out their workshop!

Facts.

Researchers sought to determine whether weight-based discrimination (dismissive or critical statements about weight, intense scrutiny of weight, blame for weight-related risks, assumptions made about lifestyle or character, difficulties fitting medical equipment) increased probability of cesarean delivery and concluded that it did.

Among 1352 survey respondents, 245 were very high BMI when they became pregnant. In this group, 36% reported experiencing discrimination based on their weight compared with 4% with medium BMI. Experiencing discrimination predicted cesarean delivery with each additional event increasing the odds of cesarean by 7%. An analysis of the interplay among factors found that BMI had a direct effect on experiencing weight-based discrimination, BMI had a direct effect on cesarean delivery, weight discrimination had a direct effect on cesarean delivery, and BMI had an indirect effect on cesarean delivery mediated by its relationship with weight discrimination.

Love this visual.

Inversions are such a wonderful tool to help the body soften and align.

Be sure that the birth giver doesn't have issues with blood pressure and that they have someone there to help them get into and out of the position if needed.

Doing inversions every day can help you lengthen and soften your uterine ligaments, as well as help resolve any twist in the lower uterine segment.

The weight of baby and uterus streeeeetches out those ligaments to reduce torque and helps baby get into a great position for birth.

Happy New Year!

With all the drama in the world right now, it's sometimes hard to find something to be happy about.

In birth, the world of care is changing. Letting a parent assist in birthing their child even while experiencing a cesarean birth is an amazing way to make birth about the birthing person and their family no matter how their little ones enter the world.

Cesareans do not have to be isolating, scary events. They can be just as full of heart and joy as any vaginal birth. It just takes strategic, intentional planning and offerings from hospitals and OBs.

Birthers and babies are worth it.

Maternal Assisted Cesarean. What a moment captured by .nl and overseen by gynecologist, . 🥹 MAC is HAPPENING around the world, everyone, and we are so excited about it. The Netherlands, Korea, Australia, and yes... even in the U.S.! Have you had a MAC or heard of one happening in your area? Drop a comment below and tell us all about it!

Thank you ICAN for highlighting that something as simple as sitting up on your sit bones can be a great way to labor and rest at the same time.

Welcome to “Movement Monday” where we take on the very important topic of upright birth in a series we are calling “ICAN Birth Upright”.

Today’s ICAN Birth Upright position is the Tailor Sit. While I (Sam, ICANs VP) don’t recommend we spend all day in this position, as we need to find internal rotation as well as the external rotation of the femur, this position has been shown to have many benefits compared with lithotomy (laying on back). According to Fu et al. (2023), sitting decreased time in the second stage of labor. In addition, compared with lithotomy, seated positions led to higher rates of spontaneous vaginal birth and lower episiotomy rates. The study participants also rated their experiences higher on birth satisfaction surveys.

There are lots of benefits to this position, even during pregnancy! It gives a gentle stretch to the inner thighs, and if you sit up on a yoga block or stuffed animal (or anything really) that brings your knees below your pelvis, you’re more apt to sit up on your sitz bones (ischial tuberosities) and find a neutral pelvic position. But remember, change up which foot you cross in front; you can also put the soles of the feet together or bring one (or both) legs out to the side to add in more stretch.

There is no “bad” seated position, the best one is the “next” one. That means, change it up, sit in all the positions. Finding different positions and movement throughout your day will help your baby find a better position in the womb. It will also help balance the space within the pelvis, so that even if they choose a position other than LOA, they can then be free to rotate without hindrance during labor.
