Ancient Technologies & Architecture wrapped this week at Meta Humans. Over five weeks, members ground pigments for cave paintings, pressed cuneiform into clay, made papyrus and flatbread from scratch, built catapults and trebuchets for a launch tournament, rebuilt a shaduf and an Archimedes screw, and built scale models of the Wonders of the World.
The aqueduct was challenging. Clay slip, premade bricks, hand-built mudbricks: none of it held, because craft-scale bricks come out smooth and real brick is rough enough for mortar to grip. That’s a better lesson about construction than a finished aqueduct would have been.
