Winter Haven Regional Airport is proud to highlight one of our valued airport tenants, Synergy Aero.
Since February of this year, Synergy Aero has been operating at KGIF, helping aspiring aviators across Central Florida achieve their goals of becoming private, instrument-rated, and commercial pilots.
Founded by Rob and Stephanie Jones, the veteran-owned flight school provides hands-on flight training designed to prepare students for success in the cockpit. Their student pilots range from high school students taking their first steps toward an aviation career to adults pursuing a lifelong dream of flight.
Synergy Aero's team of five experienced flight instructors provides training in both Cessna and Piper Cherokee aircraft. Leading the program is Chief Flight Instructor Patrick Blackwelder, a former U.S. Navy veteran with extensive flight training experience. Flight Instructor Steve Watson also helps students sharpen their skills using Synergy Aero's state-of-the-art flight simulator, allowing pilots to safely train for a variety of weather conditions and emergency scenarios.
In addition to flight training, Synergy Aero operates a well-stocked pilot shop offering essential gear and supplies for pilots at every stage of their aviation journey.

Chief Instructor Patrick Blackwelder was flying near the edge of a Florida rain shower today. With scattered showers covering the area all day, conditions were constantly changing, creating a powerful reminder of why weather deserves every pilot’s respect.

Aviation isn’t about testing your luck or seeing how close you can get. It’s about good judgment, maintaining safe margins, and understanding that Mother Nature always has the final say.

The best pilots aren’t the ones who fly through the weather. They’re the ones who recognize it, respect it, and make smart decisions around it.

Today, that respect came with a pretty incredible view.

Caught the weather moving in right as we were turning final. On the 10th lap in the pattern, Chief Instructor Patrick Blackwelder snapped this unreal view as the rain wall pushed toward the airport. Moments like this remind you why pilots never stop looking outside. 🌧️✈️

Huge congratulations to Austin on crushing his first solo flight in the Direct Fly Alto Sport! Watching a student take off alone for the first time never gets old, and Austin made it happen with confidence, discipline, and hard work.

From day one to solo in just 9.3 hours is seriously impressive. The journey is just getting started, but today was a big milestone.

Proud of you, Austin. Go earn that certificate. 👊
