If you only knew what was said right before this picture was taken… 😂

Actually, judging by my face, maybe it’s better that we don’t.

One of my favorite things about working in special education is finding your people, the ones you can learn from, solve problems with…and apparently laugh with until you completely ruin the picture. 🫣

Conferences are great for new ideas. But sometimes the best part is the people you meet along the way.

And whatever was said right before this picture?? Clearly, it was good. 😉

There’s something amazing happening at Language and Literacy Academy for Learning. ❤️

We had the opportunity to spend time with the team, and what stood out most was the PEOPLE!

This is a team with a heart for serving students and families. Their passion for education shows in their willingness to think differently and find ways to meet students where they are.

And they aren’t just investing in students—they’re building leaders! Through a willingness to challenge what education has traditionally looked like, LLAL is paving the way for new possibilities.

LLAL, thank you for welcoming us and allowing us to see your passion in action. Keep paving the way. ❤️

High expectations for ALL students. ❤️

We had a great day learning, laughing, and talking about what it really means to create an environment where every student is supported, challenged, and given the opportunity to succeed.

Salt Creek is excited to partner with Grand Lake Christian Academy as they take the next steps in building their special education program and preparing to serve students through the Lindsey Nicole Henry Scholarship Program.

This partnership is just getting started. We’ll continue working alongside their team as they build their program, while also creating opportunities for parents to ask questions, learn, and feel supported along the way.

We can’t wait to share more as this grows. ❤️

Anyone else have a Tuesday that felt like three Mondays stacked on top of each other? 😅

If you work in education, you know some days the to-do list wins. 🤷‍♀️

So tonight’s reminder is simple:

You don’t have to solve every problem today.

Tomorrow, we’ll get back to doing what we do best.

Everything SPED. Covered. 💙

PD isn’t just another meeting on the calendar. It’s an investment in the people who show up for students every single day. ❤️

We’ve loved getting to learn, laugh, collaborate, and grow alongside educators lately.

When we strengthen educators, we strengthen schools. And when we strengthen schools, we create better opportunities for students.

That’s the work. That’s the why. That’s Salt Creek Learning.

Every student. Every role. One team.

We spent the day with talking about what it means to lead from every seat in the building.

We want to challenge you to:

Find your marigolds.
Own your seat on the bus.
Remember your great shot.
Communicate before you assume.
And never underestimate the impact one educator can have.

100% of respondents left with a strategy they could implement immediately.

Participants talked about positivity, accommodating all students, and even the simple practice of asking a student to “tell me one good thing.”

This week’s SPED Sunday reflection focuses on a simple truth: accommodations should not change depending on who is teaching.
When accommodations are written into an IEP or 504 plan, they are part of the student’s access to learning.

In this article, we look at why implementation matters, how schools can strengthen staff understanding and accountability, and why students should never have to repeatedly advocate for supports that have already been deemed necessary.

Professional development isn’t just checking a box... it’s giving educators the tools they need to serve students.

We had the privilege of spending time with special education teachers as we worked through SPED updates, discussed compliance changes, and shared strategies they can take back to their classrooms.

We don’t just teach compliance... we help build confident, stronger teams, and better outcomes for students.

This is just the beginning. More schools. More conversations. More opportunities to strengthen special education.

Everything SPED. Covered.

As we close out our experience at the State of Oklahoma, Special Education Conference, we want to thank every special education educator, leader, and advocate who stopped by the Salt Creek Learning booth.

We appreciated every conversation, connection, and opportunity to learn more about the important work happening in schools across Oklahoma.

For many of you, the school year has already begun or will begin very soon. As you prepare to welcome students and families, we hope you remember that the work you do matters.

Your patience, expertise, creativity, and commitment help students feel supported, valued, and capable of success.

Thank you for choosing this work and for continuing to show up for students every day. We are cheering you on and wishing you a strong and successful rewarding school year!

A strong IEP means very little if it is not consistently implemented.

The meeting may be compliant and the paperwork complete, but the real measure of an IEP is what happens after everyone leaves the table.

Salt Creek Learning is launching “Special Education Sunday,” a weekly short-form reflection series focused on strengthening special education practice, challenging thinking, and keeping students at the center.
