Polk State recently celebrated a major milestone for its Empower to Employ Program as its first cohort of students with intellectual disabilities successfully completed their second round of industry certifications, bringing them one step closer to meaningful employment.
The Empower to Employ Program is a comprehensive post-secondary transition initiative designed specifically for individuals with intellectual disabilities, providing them with the skills, experience and confidence to thrive in the workforce. Polk State Lakeland Collegiate High School will be the last of our three collegiate high schools to hold graduation tonight!
Topping the class is valedictorian Troy Xiong and salutatorian Conner Davidson, who will graduate with 4.758 and 4.729 grade-point averages, respectively. In addition to their diplomas, both will graduate with Associate in Arts degrees and pursue bachelor's degrees in business-related fields.

Lilet Cross, a member of Polk State College's first graduating class from the Supply Chain Management concentration of the Bachelor of Applied Science in Supervision and Management Program, celebrated her graduation at Fort Drum.
As an active-duty service member stationed in New York, she could not participate in commencement, but the College ensured she received her regalia so she could celebrate (and send us pics)!

NBA champion Marreese Speights has been named the new head coach of Polk State College Basketball.
He played 10 seasons in the NBA with the Philadelphia 76ers, Memphis Grizzlies, Cleveland Cavaliers, Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Clippers and Orlando Magic.
The 6'11 former center says he's excited "to be part of something bigger than me. I felt like Polk was where I was supposed to be."
