Nailed it! Teachers are AMAZING!!!!
Teachers are the real magic makers.
I have to admit, I didn’t know this until I spent time in a classroom and saw it for myself.
And parents—they won’t ever take credit for this because they are far too humble, so I’m going to tell you.
Teachers are the people who are welcoming our overtired, overwhelmed, overstimulated, and over-it children into their classrooms every morning in December with the biggest, warmest smiles and the patience of saints.
As we kiss our babies goodbye and send them on their way before dashing off to run errands and finish up our Christmas shopping, teachers are working overtime behind the scenes.
They are masterfully navigating meltdowns and deflecting prying questions about reindeer and the speed of Santa’s sleigh.
They are wiping streams of runny noses and fighting off a deluge of seasonal germs and viruses.
They are zipping up coats and reminding our kids to use the bathroom and encouraging them for the millionth time to share with friends.
They are planning Polar Express days where 15 kindergarteners get to wear their pajamas to school and bring in a blanket and stuffed animal.
They are orchestrating a Christmas play of the Nativity with a script and costumes and props.
They are willingly bringing glitter into their rooms so our children can assemble the most beautiful craft to bring home to us as a gift. And then staying after to vacuum it all up off their carpets.
They are facilitating gift exchanges and holiday-themed games and pizza parties.
They are bustling around the classroom first thing in the morning. Making sure they have the right number of copies and setting out morning work on tables and laminating . . . so much laminating!
They are staying late to plan ahead for the next day. Even though they have their own families to worry about and their own shopping to do and their own needs to take care of.
ALL OF THIS while trying to stick to their curriculum and making sure our children are still learning and growing and thriving in their class.
Teachers are the magic makers.
They are the calm to the craziness of the season, and we have such peace of mind when our kids are with them.
Because even when schedules are off and life is hectic, they are a warm, comforting, stable presence in their lives.
They are a home away from home.
And the most amazing part of all?
This isn’t just during the holidays, or in the month of December.
The truth is, teachers make magic happen for our children the whole year. ✨
