David Transou died July 7, 2026 from a long battle of cancer. He wore many hats, but most of us remember him as "Our Friend"

Joan Carol Strupe Shumate, known to her grandchildren as "Lovey," passed away
on July 5, 2026, at the age of 77. Joan was born on May 18, 1949, in Rural Hall,
North Carolina, and lived most of her life in Greensboro.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Reich Strupe ("Papa Strupe")
and Eunice Lillian Griffin Strupe ("Noonie"); her brothers, Kenneth Dorman
Strupe, his daughter Kenna, and Paul Wayne Strupe; and her sister, Alice
Geraldine Strupe Brinkley Arthur. She was previously married to Rick F. Shumate,
Amanda's father, who is also deceased.
She is survived by her daughter, Amanda Reich Shumate Van Horne, and son-in
law, Benjamin Todd Van Horne; her granddaughters, Lilliana Reich Van Horne and
Roxanne Ellora Van Horne; and brother-in-law Steve Arthur. She is also survived
by many beloved nieces and nephews: Kathryn Brinkley Dowdy (Bo) and children
Lee, Clay (and son George), and Whitt; Cindy Brinkley Richardson (Johnny) and
daughter Kate; Alicia Brinkley Crocker (John) and daughter Abbey; Christian
Mischelle Strupe Cooper and son Kameron; Erich Rodd Strupe (Tasha),
stepdaughter Maddison, and son Lincoln; and Paul Wayne Strupe Jr. and wife
Cheryl.
