We all know it has been a hard year in public education. Yet, 50 teachers will begin their licensure journey in the in-district licensure program on June 8th and will teach in WS/FCS during the 2026-2027 school year!

They will pay $500 to complete the Summer Institute, learn in-person for 6 weeks while completing online, licensure-specific coursework, and learn through this experiential, job-embedded, supportive, and joyful program.
Each year, we seek community support for these teachers.

Here is the direct link to support Cohort 4 this summer. Thanks for encouraging these beginning teachers who are committed to teaching in WS/FCS.

Celebrating Cohort 3 and getting to meet Cohort 4. So proud of this team and these teachers.

We learned today that 95% of the 40 cohort members who submitted their edTPA portfolios passed on their first try (the state pass rate is 85% even after multiple attempts).

We asked them during our final class how they wanted to learn of their scores—by text, email, or a phone call.

Many asked for a phone call or text. The team had a wonderful time reaching out to share the good news with the teachers and their principals. We celebrated with a parade to the HR offices to share the excitement with the licensure and hiring teams.

This program is a team effort—and the result of research-based, intentional design and support.

We are so very proud of our teachers!

This afternoon, we met Cohort 4 accepted applicants to discuss program design and requirements. Many of them committed to join us this summer.

Program completers spoke to share nuggets of wisdom and answer questions from the accepted applicants.

We are excited to support this next group of transformational teachers.

We celebrated Cohort 3 last night with a dinner. These teachers completed their licensure program and celebrated with a Closing Ceremony that included reflection, gratitude, inspiration, and readers theatre.

Our sessions—even those with guests in attendance—model effective lesson planning, include data and research, and are rooted in developing a supportive community of lifelong learners.

We look forward to welcoming Cohort 4 next week!

It is Spring Break for WS/FCS schools. It is also the final week for the residency teachers to complete drafts of their edTPAs. We hosted a writers workshop today—14 cohort 3 members came to the digital teaching and learning lab to work on their portfolios.

We love our teachers, and are so proud of them tackling licensure requirements while teaching full-time!

This is what high expectations and high levels of support look like. Explicit instruction, strategic networking, integrated learning, and authentic joy make the requirements less daunting and deepen learning. Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools
