Urgent Request to Reconsider Closure of Dual Language/Immersion Programs in Harnett County Schools 04/22/2026

Dear community members, educators, and advocates,

We need your voice.

Harnett County Schools is planning to discontinue several Dual Language/Immersion (DL/I) programs impacting hundreds of students and families who have committed to these programs as a core part of their education.

These programs are not just about learning another language. They support strong academic outcomes, help students become bilingual and biliterate, and prepare them to succeed in a diverse and global world. For many families, they represent years of investment, trust, and community.

We are asking for your support. Read this letter and add your signature by filling out the form on the bottom of the letter: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1hUR2-qwcDHvU3yn-_aqFn7zKuv1RodaLuUBSRgp174c/edit?usp=sharing

By signing, you are joining educators, families, and advocates across North Carolina in urging the district to:
Pause the program closures
Engage the community in transparent decision-making
Explore solutions that preserve access to dual language education

You can also help by:
Sharing this message with colleagues, families, and networks
Posting on social media
Encouraging organizations to sign on in support

Together, we can advocate for educational opportunities that benefit all students.

Thank you for standing with us.

Sincerely,
Bonnie Wang
President, FLANC
