Acting Out is the community outreach program of the award-winning UNCSA School of Drama, offering classes in Acting, Musical Theatre, and private voice instruction. Instructors include UNCSA faculty members and alumni, offering the same caliber of instruction as our high school and undergraduate programs. Classes focus on learning and honing the skills of theatre as a process, followed by opportunities to put those skills into practice. Drama skills not only build confidence as an actor, but improve communication, promote physical awareness, relieve stress, develop friendships and encourage empathy. The program’s mission is to serve as a community outreach program, offering professional level acting training through a variety of courses in the discipline. Acting training builds self-esteem and confidence; encourages listening skills, risk-taking, responsibility, independence, and teamwork; prepares you to speak in public, hold yourself with poise, and to understand contrasting viewpoints as you delve into a multitude of characters. And these are just a few of the positive side-effects from training as an actor – not to mention that it’s FUN! The UNCSA School of Drama has cultivated talented students for over half a century and as we embark upon the next half century, we look forward to working with many more students through Acting Out!
