Established in 1835, the Euzelian Literary Society is the oldest campus organization at Wake Forest University.

We value open discourse and believe in the value of each individual's perspective and worldview. Meetings are weekly and span a variety of topics. Members speak on a pre-determined subject, and at the end of the meeting the Society votes to resolve the issues one way or another.

What makes a society/nation “great”?

Tonight’s meeting topic was a question, which left a lot of thinking room. Our friends expressed a lot of creative and interesting ideas!
Some main points that were discussed:
•the distinction between perceived happiness and flourishing
•the importance of a shared cultured and identity
•government’s role in ensuring the wellbeing of society

The meeting ended with more questions to consider!

Since Euzelian Literary Society was established in 1835, records have shown that the first and early members of the society upheld a high standard of record keeping. Today, the current members of Euzelian Literary Society recognizes the value in record keeping, and though we no longer possess a thick leather bound notebook for our records, we intend to carry our traditions along with the continuous progression of modernity. This page is intended for such a task, achieved by the passing of this page’s ownership from a senior member to another in hopes that our mission to revive and sustain the intellectual culture and democratic discourse at Wake Forest University will carry on.

The Euzelian Society had our second online meeting this week and we were all glad to see our friends (all healthy and safe) come together to share a virtual space for dialogue.

The resolution of the meeting was, "Multiparty system is the most efficient system of a democratic state."

We defined "efficiency" in society is one that ensures personal liberties and rights of citizens are secured, and that citizens are free to engage in mutually beneficial cooperation.

Resolution: FAILED TO PASS
1 in favor
4 against
3 abstained

We hope that everyone is staying safe and healthy!

This week’s resolution:
Global leaders should be taking practical steps towards the eventual dissolution of national borders and the establishment of a global state under the UN.

The resolution did NOT pass with 7 against and 3 for it.

Some of the major arguments that arose were:
• States (including religious states) have the right to remain sovereign no matter what government it is under and a Global State would violate its sovereignty
• Globalization will eventually erode cultural and religious diversity, which may or may not impede the progress of humanity
• Having one (inter)national military will lead to anarchy
• The Global State will peacefully bring all humans together under one set of laws that would determine justice, morality, and human rights.

Happy Halloween!!! Today’s Project Pumpkin was a success!

Things we realized today:

• Oreo Hershey Bar is a Tier 1 candy,
• Jenga should be a competitive sport,
• There are two types of people in the world: those who love licorice and those who don’t... which side do you fall under?

Euzelian Literary Society, Wake Forest's oldest club on campus.

Who are we? We are a group of students at Wake Forest who value open, intellectual discourse. We meet weekly and discuss a wide range of political and controversial topics through a philosophical approach. We are NOT affiliated with any political clubs on campus.

Where are we? Tribble. Message for specific info!

Why are we here? We strongly believe in fostering individual voices through open dialogue and by challenging our beliefs, especially in today's polarized society.
