$20,000 is waiting to be unlocked!

To meet the Because of a Teacher challenge and receive this generous donation, we need to reach 450 alumni gifts by the end of the day on Friday.

We are thrilled to share that we are now just 51 alumni gifts away from reaching our goal!

The most meaningful part of this challenge has been hearing from alumni spanning the classes of 1965 through 2025, all sharing stories and memories of the teachers who made a lasting impact on their Summit experience.

We are deeply grateful to alumni leaders Hunter Peterson ’87, Tate Foster Partsch ’90, Alex Polychron Collins ’97, and Taylor Williams ’02 for inspiring alumni participation across generations.

Authors and Entrepreneurs.

Third Grade had a BIG day last week. 🎉

Students celebrated the release of Super Summit Stories, a published book featuring an original story from every Third Grader. Families joined in for the debut and to recognize months of creativity and hard work.

Later that day, students transformed into business owners for the Third Grade Business Fair — showcasing their developed products, marketing their brands, and selling to shoppers from across the school community.

Watching students confidently share their ideas, creativity, and innovation was something special.

At Summit, we believe that belonging isn't just a value — it's something you practice. And for our students, one of the most powerful places that happens is on a team.

This year, our athletics program spanned 20 teams across girls, boys, and coed sports — from soccer and lacrosse to baseball, track, and swim. Students didn't just participate; many dove in fully, with 118 athletes competing in three sports across the year. Even our youngest competitors showed up: 87% of 5th Graders took part in spring sports or winter swim.

Programs like these don't happen by accident. We're grateful for the donors whose generosity makes it possible for every Summit student — from 5th Grade through 9th — to find their place, their teammates, and their confidence on the field.

"An abiding sense of belonging is a necessary catalyst for each of us to strive towards our fullest potential."

What does investment in student innovation produce?

At Summit, it results in ideas moving from concept to market.

After advancing through an on-campus competition, finalists from the Innovation and Entrepreneurship (I&E) class were selected to present at the Wake Forest Center for Entrepreneurship—pitching to experienced business leaders in a Shark Tank–style setting. Their I&E classmates attended as well.

Eight students gave compelling presentations, and three businesses were given special awards.

🏆 First Place: Avary with Pocket Pies
🥈 Runners-up: Vivi & McLain with Marz Barz and Olive with Olive’s Crafts

Other finalists:
Madeleine with Linked
Ayers and Julie with The Daily Pop
Clare with Twist

Now, these ventures, along with their I&E classmates', move beyond the pitch—launching at our Venture Market during Friday's May Frolics, where students will sell directly to customers. This is a full innovation cycle: idea, pitch, validation, and real-world application. Come out and see for yourself!

May Frolics Baked Goods Needed⭐

Do you like baking, or do you know where a local bakery is located? Home-baked is appreciated but certainly not required!

Volunteers have made dropping off your yummy donated treats super easy. You can:
🍬 Hand them to a volunteer at the Main Circle carpool on Thursday morning or 3:00 pm
🍩 Hand them to a volunteer at the Main Circle or Athletic Center carpool on Friday morning
🍪 Bring them to the Main Office greeter desk by noon on Friday

Note that bakers should bring their items packaged to sell.

🌱 Thank you to Ritu and Ben Hagan, parents to Amaya (8th) and Jay (5th), for their commitment and support of Summit's students, faculty, and spaces.

We are so grateful to families who choose to invest not only in their own children’s experience, but in the future of Summit for generations to come. Their support fuels innovative programs, exceptional teaching, and opportunities that help every learner thrive.

We invite the entire Summit community to join us in supporting the Summit Fund and SEED Campaign. Every gift, of every size, makes a meaningful difference.

Celebrating faculty beyond the classroom 👏

Second grade teacher Christy Hemby and Lower School librarian Julie Giljames were recently inducted into The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, an honorary society recognizing outstanding women educators. Joining them in this honor were former colleagues Nancy Chapman, Libba Reynolds, and Trish McRae.

This recognition reflects the talent, dedication, and continued growth of Summit’s faculty. We’re proud to have educators who are not only exceptional in their craft but committed to learning and leading beyond the classroom.

Congratulations to them all!
