We’re still smiling from an incredible weekend of music at the Community Music School!
This past weekend, our voice and piano students took the stage for a series of wonderful recitals, and we could not be more proud of what they accomplished. From first-time performers to seasoned musicians, every student shared their hard work and love of music with our community.
Here are a few of our favorite moments from the weekend. Congratulations to all of our performers, teachers, accompanists, and families for a successful recital season.
As one recital weekend comes to a close, we are looking forward to our Honors Recital this Saturday at 2:00 PM in Watson Chamber Recital Hall. Join us as we celebrate some of the semester’s most outstanding performances.
Students were selected through an adjudication process led by Nancy Johnston and Ashley Clasen, who also accompanied our students throughout recital season.
We hope you’ll join us in celebrating these remarkable young musicians and the hard work they have put in all semester long.

It was a great day to be a Suzuki violinist (or violist) in the Weesner studio this morning. 🎻
Today’s play-in recital just kept getting better and better. What started with just a couple students on stage quickly turned into one big celebration with the entire group joining in by the end. The joy, encouragement, and sense of community in the room was exactly what Suzuki music-making is all about.
Huge thanks to the Weesners and all of the families who came out and supported these students today. We are so proud of everyone and cannot wait for the final two weekends of semester recitals!

We are still smiling thinking back on last weekend’s CMS recitals. Between our Guitar, Adult, Solo Singing Class, Brass, Woodwinds, and Variety Instrument recitals, there was so much beautiful music and so many moments that reminded us why we love what we do.
As we head into another recital weekend, we just want to take a moment to recognize the incredible work of our faculty, who have spent months guiding and encouraging these students every step of the way. The amount of growth we have seen across the program this semester has honestly been amazing, and it has been so rewarding to watch students step on stage with confidence and pride in what they have accomplished.
Thank you as well to our students and families for all of the practice, scheduling, encouragement, and support that make recital season possible.
This weekend we continue with our Suzuki Violin recitals, followed by our Voice and Piano recitals over the next two weekends before ending the semester with our CMS Honors Recital on June 6 featuring some of our most advanced performers.
We are incredibly proud of this community and excited for all of the music still ahead. ❤️

Band Together Summer Day Camp at UNCSA Community Music School is designed for rising 7th–9th grade band students with at least one year of playing experience who want to grow as musicians, make new friends, and have FUN making music this summer.
Students will participate in large ensemble rehearsals, sectional work, group piano classes, music theory activities, and collaborative music-making in a supportive and energetic environment designed to help young musicians build confidence and creativity. The camp also intentionally includes downtime, social connection, and engaging activities so students can enjoy the full camp experience while strengthening their musicianship.
The program is led by outstanding local educators Joshua Mitchell (Kernersville Middle School) and Ron Forsh (Clemmons Middle School), two highly respected directors whose ensembles consistently earn superior ratings and whose students regularly qualify for county, district, and state honor bands. Both directors are known not only for musical excellence, but for creating welcoming, student-centered environments where young musicians thrive.
Camp runs July 20–31 on the UNCSA campus in Winston-Salem and is ideal for students looking to stay engaged musically over the summer while learning from experienced educators and connecting with peers from across the region.

What a day at the CMS! Today we filled both Crawford Hall and Hood Recital Hall with music from our chorus students, Suzuki violinists, and Forsyth JAM musicians.
This post is packed with video snippets and photos from throughout the day because there were simply too many great moments not to share. From first performances to confident ensemble playing, today was a reminder of just how much growth can happen in a semester.
Huge thanks to our incredible teachers, accompanists, students, and families for making recital season so meaningful. We already can’t wait to see what next fall brings.

These photos were too sweet not to share. ❤️
On April 26, Ms. Lina Casas performed her final UNCSA violin recital, and two of her Suzuki violin students, Maggie and Eliot came out to support her. Now, we get to support them as they perform in their own recital tomorrow at 1:00 PM in Hood Recital Hall.
This coming week is also Lina’s final week with the Community Music School. We are so grateful for the care, musicianship, and joy she has brought to our students over the past two semesters. Thank you, Lina, for two wonderful semesters with CMS. We are wishing you all the best in your next chapter.
