It was an exciting morning in the KES hallways as we celebrated our graduating wildcats at Homecoming and Handprints. We’re so proud of this 2026 class and loved cheering them on for reaching this great milestone. It was so heartwarming to watch them look for their favorite KES teachers and listen to them reminisce about their elementary years. Once a Wildcat…Always a Wildcat! ❤️🐾❤️

Kernersville Elementary School recently celebrated 100 years since the establishment of the first Kernersville school building. The campus has taught a wide range of grades in that time, and its schools have hosted plenty of interesting people, from statewide sports champions to integration trailblazers. ESL Teacher William Sykes, who organized the school’s exhibits for its anniversary celebration, hopes that learning more about the school’s history will inspire students with a healthy curiosity about the world around them.
“History fascinates me because it’s always right beneath the surface,” Sykes said. “There’s so much here that you don’t know anything about until you start to look.”

We honored many of our volunteers today with a breakfast made special from the hearts and ovens of our staff. We are so grateful for the many community volunteers that help support our students and school. We missed many of our dedicated volunteers that couldn’t be there, but hope they all know the positive impact they make at KES. Our Kernersville Village is the best!

What a special day at KES! We celebrated 100 years of educational excellence on our campus with a grand centennial event that welcomed back alumni to walk down memory lane, had games, a story teller, food trucks, venders, vintage cars and a book fair. The highlight of the day was a dedication to a very special teacher that devoted 45 years to educating children and in 1966 was the first African American teacher in Kernersville Schools. The day was officially proclaimed as Ida Powell Cathey day by Mayor Dawn Morgan and our Board of Aldermans to honor her as an admired, respected and beloved trailblazer in our community. Our school has such a rich history, which is built on the legacy of dedicated educators like Ms Cathy, Mr. Fitzpatrick (who was also her 3rd grade student) and the legacy continues with the amazing teachers that are still loving and educating the children of Kernersville today. Our PTO and several staff members really went above and beyond today by putting together an event that was not only fun, but also touched our hearts by honoring our legacy. This school and its community is truly a special place. ❤️🐾❤️
Come on out to the Centennial Spring Fling Event at KES today from 10:00-2:00.
