It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of Miss Rebecca Richards on Wednesday, June 10, 2026. She faithfully served at Gospel Light Baptist Church and Gospel Light Christian School. Miss Richards taught elementary school for 12 years, served as principal for 15 years, and served as Enrichment Center Director for one year. She also served as the pianist for Bro. Frank’s Sunday school class and for Gospel Light Spanish Church. When we reflect on her ministry, we think of many things: servant to God, servant to others, prayer warrior, wise and kind. She always referred to the students at GLCS as, “my kids”. Her favorite time of the school year was in March because that was our dedicated missions month. She was always so excited to plan fundraisers for mission projects and missionaries.
Please be in prayer for her family, church, and school.
Please read the following dedication from the 2012 GLCS Ariel.
In the world, there are two dominant types of people: leaders and followers. Without any followers, the world would be in utter chaos; but without any leaders, it would be no different. Without anyone to step up and lead a group of people, nothing would ever be accomplished. A light to guide the way is simply all that is needed. Miss Rebecca Ann Richards is Gospel Light's “Guiding Light.” From teachers to students, all can equally admire her. However, in all actuality, it is not her light that is followed, but the light of Jesus Christ which is reflected in her.
Born on January 18, 1974, Miss Richards was reared in the state of Utah on the mission field. She attended Heber Valley Christian School, where in 1992 she graduated valedictorian of her class. By doing this, she set a high standard for herself which she has continued to uphold in her current leadership of Gospel Light Christian School.
As a child, she made a profession of faith, but was truly saved later as a teenager. After her high school years, she pursued a degree of Early Childhood Education at Bob Jones University, earning her Bachelor’s Degree. Later, she earned her Master’s Degree in Special Education. She student taught in 5K in the public school system. Immediately after graduation, she began teaching fifth grade at Gospel Light, where she taught for twelve years, in one of which she was named Teacher of the Year. For the past two years, she has been the principal of GL, but her heart has never left the classroom.
Her compassion toward children and those less fortunate remain two of the most compelling factors in her love for teaching. Her true motive, however, is her desire to please the Lord with her life.
