Last week, our Elementary ESL/ELD teachers came together for PLT! 💙🌎📚

We had a chance to collaborate and dig deeper into Teacher Clarity, but we also stepped outside for a fun team-building activity filled with collaboration, problem-solving, and plenty of laughs! 🌳🤝😊

And we discovered something pretty amazing… our elementary ESL teachers have approximately 1,000 YEARS of collective ESL teaching experience! 🤯👏

Just think about all the knowledge, expertise, and heart represented in that room! What a privilege to learn and grow together in support of our multilingual learners. ❤️

And thank you, River Oaks Community Church, for providing us with your beautiful space this year to connect and learn!

The Education Foundation for WS/FCS Grant Application window runs from September 15 - October 15.
The cover page, application, and scoring rubric will be available at our website: wsfcsedfoundation.org for staff to apply for grants are available for up to $1500. We would love to have applications from every WS/FCS school during this cycle

🌎💙Noche Latina at Mount Tabor High School 💙🌎

Mount Tabor High School hosted a wonderful Noche Latina on Wednesday in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month! 🎉

Families came together for an evening filled with connection, support, and community. Local community partners were there to provide valuable information and guidance to families, helping connect them with resources and opportunities.

A special thank you to Forsyth Tech for guiding conversations with families about the supports they need to feel more informed, involved, and active participants in their children’s education and schools.

And, of course, everyone enjoyed a delicious meal while building connections and celebrating together!

Thank you, Mount Tabor High School, for creating such a welcoming space for our multilingual families and community! Together, we can build stronger connections between families, schools, and our community. 💙

🇵🇭 Mabuhay @ 40! 🎉 Celebrating Filipino Culture, Heritage & Community 🇵🇭

What a wonderful weekend celebrating Filipino culture, traditions, friendship, and community! ❤️🇵🇭 Our district’s EPI Filipino Teachers hosted Mabuhay @ 40 – Celebrating Filipino Birthdays, Culture, and Heritage, a beautiful Filipino Teachers Cultural Show and birthday celebration honoring Mr. Augustine Ani from Mineral Springs Middle Visual & Performing Arts Magnet School as he celebrated his 40th birthday! 🎂🎉 Turning 40 is a very special milestone in Filipino tradition, and it was wonderful to see this important birthday celebrated with so much joy, laughter, music, dancing, friendship, and Filipino pride. 💃🎶❤️

Even more special was seeing so many members of the Winston-Salem community come together to celebrate - Winston-Salem Mayor Allen Joines, principals and assistant principals from the schools where our EPI Filipino teachers work, fellow teachers and colleagues, as well as friends and family from across the community.

Events like this remind us that culture brings people together. What a beautiful opportunity to celebrate the rich heritage of our Filipino educators while strengthening the connections that make our schools and community so special. 🇵🇭❤️🇺🇸

🧵💛 Learning, creating, and building friendships in ESL!

ESL teacher Yulianna Ryabova at Lewisville Middle School kicked off the year with a sewing project that turned into so much more than learning how to sew!

Students practiced following directions, asking for help, giving advice, solving problems, staying organized, and using social language to talk about their lives, goals, fears, and summer adventures.

And perhaps the best result? Each student gained a buddy—someone to help them when they’re shy, practice with, teach, laugh with, and lean on when they need support. 💕

And yes…one student even plans to teach his monkey how to work his locker! 🐒🔐

What a wonderful example of how ESL classrooms build language, confidence, independence, and belonging. Thank you, Yulianna, for creating such a welcoming space for our multilingual learners! 👏
