What better way to spend a rainy day on campus than under the Davis Field tent with ’s resident 🌻, Marybeth Wallace? (We’ll save you the trouble: there isn’t one.)

As Special Assistant to the Vice President, Marybeth keeps the Fellows program running smoothly—and as a colleague and mentor, she keeps the cohort in high spirits.

Two weeks ago, the Fellows joined Marybeth for a Leadership Lunch that centered literature—“10 Great Books” that shaped her life—and were encourage to reflect on the stories that have made them who they are.

The Fellows closed out the month of September with some coffee and conversation with .wfu’s Dr. Malika Roman-Isler. Following a brilliant introduction by our favorite Class of ‘22 Senior Orator, Bea, Dr. Roman-Isler talked with the Fellows about leadership, inclusive excellence, and holistic wellbeing—particularly the importance of a good therapist.

In the midst of a (very busy!) first semester in her new role, Provost Gillespie joined the Fellows for lunch to share her vision for the future of (🎩), her lifelong love of horses (🐎), and a sneak preview of her latest writing project (📚). The cohort is incredibly grateful to have had the chance to get the perspectives of two Wake Forest provosts during their first few months as Fellows.

After sharing introductions—and lunch—with the team last month, our Fellows got a peek behind the curtain at the work that keeps a great university’s internal and external and messaging both consistent and effective.

A few Fridays ago, the cohort joined career coach Amy Willard in the for a Myers-Briggs assessment session, identifying themselves as one of 16 possible “types” based on the following sliding scales:

Hey, there—it’s been a minute! 👀
The Fellows have been a busy bunch, but we wanted to kick off our recap of the past few weeks with the cohort’s latest Leadership Conversation: lunch on Davis Field with the lovely , VP for Campus Life.
What does it mean to show up in work and life as your authentic self? How do you find balance when your values—and the “heavy” things—aren’t something you can leave at the door? What would your “Top 10” list look like if you were applying to this year? Dr. Shea shared her thoughts on all this and more with the Fellows this Thursday afternoon.

Building on the themes of her inauguration address this past spring, President Wente encouraged the Fellows to consider how they can act as catalysts for good at —and beyond. What a treat to share a meal with the leader of our university!

It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood! On Wednesday, our fabulous Wake Downtown Fellow, Jordan Buzzett, hosted the cohort for a tour of the facilities at Innovation Quarter and a discussion about meaningful university–community engagement.

This week, past Fellows joined the cohort for a discussion about making the most of this exciting year. Dr. Shea Kidd Brown, VP of Campus Life, joined the conversation to advise our current Fellows about how to be a young professional on 's campus. After talking goal-setting, mentoring, and engagement with the Winston-Salem community, the Fellows are equipped for the journey ahead!
