It’s that time of year!! On Sunday, 10/25, join master mycologist Jay Justice for a fun and informative fall fungi foray focusing on native Arkansas edible, poisonous, and medicinal fall mushrooms.

After a morning PowerPoint, we will break for lunch and then carpool down to the beautiful Winfrey Valley to forage. An afternoon identification and Q&A session will be followed by one of our ever popular tastings.

Jay Justice is a retired epidemiologist who formerly worked at the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality. He is a co-founder and scientific advisor for the Arkansas Mycological Society (1982) and a scientific advisor to the Cumberland Mycological Society as well as a chief mycologist for the Missouri Mycological Society. $65 fee includes presentation, foraging, ID session, and tasting experience. Tickets are non-refundable.

Want to make your old time fiddling sound more ‘fiddley’ but not sure where to start? Join Jenny Monroe Saturday, 9/12, 2-3:30 at the Fayetteville Folk School for “Spice up your old time fiddling!”

Learn some easy, accessible tricks to spice up your playing! In this class we’ll cover simple bowing techniques—the ‘rock’ and ‘pulse’—that help add nuance, drive and confidence to your fiddling.  Then we’ll learn a fun, straightforward dance tune and practice applying our new skills to bring the tune to life.

Skill level:  Great if students are comfortable with cross tuning.

Jenny Monfore runs Old Time Flowers, a small cut flower farm in Montpelier, Vermont.  She grows sustainable fresh and dried blooms throughout the seasons.  She is also an old time musician and plays fiddle in several different stringbands including the Spring Chickens, Thunder Dog, and Wild Ponies of the West.  In her free time Jenny enjoys traveling, going to old time festivals, taking saunas and visiting libraries.
