EXCITING NEWS!!!!
Winside FFA Chapter Receives Funding through local chapter grant program.
Winside, NE – Several Nebraska schools are set to receive funding through the Nebraska FFA Foundation grant program. Winside FFA Chapter was awarded $80,000 to assist in achieving the goal of getting a chapter greenhouse.
The grant program, in its 9th year, supports Nebraska agricultural education classrooms, FFA programs, and school-based enterprises. The selection process is based on an application that requires a clearly defined financial need for a new or existing project, along with an outlined budget, timeline, and other criteria. Funds are provided by the Nebraska FFA Foundation in collaboration with its general fund donors, endowments, sponsors, and legacy gifts.
“Our board worked many years to develop sustainable funding to provide this annual grant program. There are many programs in need of more financial support to develop career-ready students in agriculture, and awarding these funds will give students in these schools some of the resources necessary to reach their full potential,”
said Stacey Agnew, Nebraska FFA Foundation Executive Director. Nebraska FFA Foundation
“In our 5th year of having an agricultural education program here in Winside, I am very excited we are able to continue expanding the program and offer new opportunities for students. This greenhouse will be able to provide students opportunities in entrepreneurship, agriscience research, expand upon student based enterprises, and give students who might not otherwise have a supervised agricultural experience (SAE) to develop one, just to name a few opportunities.”
Says, Winside Ag Teacher and FFA Advisor Karlee Johnson.
“This $80,000 grant is an exciting step for Winside Public School and our FFA chapter. A greenhouse will give students the chance to learn by doing—growing plants, conducting research, and building the skills to run a student enterprise. In just five years, Ms. Johnson has helped our agricultural education program grow into something our students and community can be proud of. We are grateful to the Nebraska FFA Foundation, the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, and the Winside FFA Supporters for investing in opportunities for our students.”
— April Knust, Superintendent, Winside Public School
This grant was funded by the Nebraska FFA Foundation and the Growing a Brighter Future for Nebraska FFA Grant, funded by Howard G. Buffett Foundation.
The Winside FFA Supporters provided funds to meet the matching requirement for this grant and continue to have a large impact in creating opportunities for our students as well!
