We are so grateful for this wonderful summer of adventure and fun! Helping our students get connected with nature is one of the best gifts in the world, and we could not be more thankful to our students and their families for being part of our forest family and really making this program what it is!

We ended the week on a high note with tic tac toe, black walnut rolling, climbing on fallen trees, and as always, the mud kitchen! We also found the exoskeleton of a cicada! What a great end to a great week!

Fun update from class today: our sink is finally working at full capacity for our mud kitchen! The kids had a blast with that today - making mud cakes, mud muffins, "chocolate milk," acorn muffins and more! Each day is an adventure, and we couldn't be more grateful!

It's amazing to see all the incredible things our students do each day. Their creativity brings out the learning in everything we do and find! Today we roasted marshmallows, rolled black walnuts down the driveway, found bugs, played in the mud kitchen, and that's just the start! What a day!

Our explorations took us on wild adventures today! Whether we were rolling black walnuts down the driveway, creating games to play, or searching the woods for a precious lost toy of one of our friends, it was filled with fun! Several of our students also created a climbing rope to help students get onto some of the higher branches above the ground! It's amazing to see their creativity!

We are so grateful that the smoke cleared up and we were able to have class this morning! It was filled with exploration and adventure! We climbed the bluff, hung out in the hammocks, used rope to help our friends climb, played in the mud kitchen, and that's just the start!! We were busy! We even made a track for black walnuts to roll down the hill! Who knew black walnuts would provide such a great learning opportunity!

Because kids breathe faster than adults, they absorb more air pollution. Here are a few ideas on how to keep them safe in these conditions:

🏡 **Bring Play Indoors:** Cancel outdoor recess, sports practices, and playground trips. Opt for indoor energy-burners instead.

🚪 **Seal the House:** Close all windows and doors. Set your AC to "recirculate" so it’s not drawing in smoky, dirty air from the outside.

💨 **Filter the Air:** Run HEPA air purifiers in the rooms your kids hang out in most (especially bedrooms). Avoid running kitchen or bathroom exhaust fans, which can pull outdoor air inside.

😷 **Mask Up Right:** If they must go outside, remember that cloth and surgical masks do not block fine woodsmoke particles (PM2.5). A well-fitted N95 is needed (never put an N95 on infants or toddlers).

🩺 **Watch for Symptoms:** Keep an eye out for coughing, stinging eyes, headaches, or wheezing. Keep rescue inhalers close by for kids with asthma.
