Crafters -- we're doing first come, first serve this time. Bring a book or an idea to bedazzle!

Game and Crafternoon starts at 5 PM and goes until about 7 PM, first floor of the library. Did we mention we'll have snacks?

Teachers, did you know? You can explore the many digital collections available – at no cost to you – in the Minnesota Digital Library online. Even if you don’t teach specifically about Minnesota history, you can find a ton of primary and secondary resources to use with your students to develop understanding, empathy, and curiosity about the people and places of the past.

Start with our “Teach with MDL” guide at mndigital.org/get-involved/teach-mdl and learn how to browse, search, and interact with MDL materials. Whether you teach history, economics, geography, ELA, or more – at all types of schools – you can find something useful in MDL. And please reach out if you would like MDL staff to do a live demonstration of MDL’s site to your teachers or students, too!

WSU childhood education history! Thank you for sharing, Minnesota Digital Library!

Today’s Item of the Week comes from Winona State University, which originally opened in 1860 as the Winona Normal School. This institution was the first teacher training school west of the Mississippi River, and it also established Minnesota’s first kindergarten in 1880. The kindergarten was part of Winona’s model school program, where aspiring teachers observed and taught with education mentors in a real classroom environment. This photograph shows children in the kindergarten class enjoying a fall walk on campus.

Join us in the library for our first Zine Crafting Circle on October 14th from 5-6:30 PM (1st floor)! Together with the Ethnic Studies department we'll be making zines inspired by Hispanic Heritage Month. No zine experience required. Registration is appreciated so we know how many to expect (link in comments).

We will have paper, scissors, glue, and a limited assortment of magazines and other supplies. You are welcome to bring additional craft and visual materials for you and your campus-mates to work in to your zines!

We've got the lineup for our next monthly Game & Crafternoon (October 1st, 5-7 PM)! Our theme this time? Wonders and Treasures.

We have three games that we'll be showing students how to play (Meadow, Bring Your Own Book, That's so Clover). Please register using the link in the comments to reserve your spot to play!

For crafts, we're doing book bedazzling! Bring a book you want to bling-up. Want to bedazzle a book cover as a separate piece of art, even if you don't own the book? Bring us your ideas and we'll work with you to print a copy of the book cover to bedazzle! Supplies are limited, so crafts are first-come/first-serve. No need to register for crafts this time, it's all walk-in.

Stop into the library to get a glimpse into Bosnia-Herzegovina! Professor Ahmet Aksoy and Professor Katherine Lind (Communication & Media Studies) are bringing students to a country at the crossroads of cultures. Even if you aren't heading to southeastern Europe anytime soon, come take a look at some thought-provoking artifacts on exhibit and grab a book from the display to learn more about the deep history of BiH and the people who live there.
