A total stranger provided the crucial advice that helped Kendall Archer choose Saint Mary’s University over the other 16 schools to which she applied. Unbeknownst to Archer, the person she contacted after a Google search of “notable alumni of Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota” just happened to be a member of the school’s Board of Trustees.

“I contacted everyone with ‘J.D.’ (Juris Doctor) after their name, because I knew I wanted to go to law school, and this gentleman (Patrick Salvi ’75) was a successful Chicago lawyer,” said Archer. “He told me, ‘There’s a great opportunity to do lots of things at Saint Mary’s and be successful in law school.’ He helped me see a potential path where I could grow to reach my goals, and I realized Saint Mary’s was where I could go to be successful.”

Our 2021 Outstanding Senior recipients are Kendall Archer and Kristopher Shepard!

Typically presented at the university’s Founders’ Day, the two were recognized during a private luncheon for all 10 finalists on April 22. Outstanding Seniors have demonstrated the ideals of scholarship, character, leadership, service to colleagues and the university community, as well as genuine concern for the needs of others.

We are excited to announce this new interdisciplinary major and minor (featuring several courses in English)!

Our own Dr. John Kerr will be teaching the Foundations course in fall 2021.

Undergraduate students on our Winona Campus can now major or minor in health humanities, a new area of study launched to prepare learners to care for a variety of health-related careers.

“This major will provide students with a new lens through which to view the deep challenges of providing care to people when they are at their most vulnerable,” said Todd Reinhart, Sc.D., dean of the School of Sciences and Health Professions.
