On one of my client calls this morning, Dad (in very good humor because his 3-year-old finally slept through the night for the FIRST time EVER 🙌) mentioned they were heading out to pick a Christmas tree… and he was worried his wife might end up disappointed again.
Last year’s tree looked great at the lot, but once they got it home… let’s just say it was much skinnier than expected. 😂
So I shared my “secret” tip—something I picked up during years of volunteering at our Boy Scout tree stand with my son:
👉 Pick a tree with a trunk that has a wide diameter 🤯
I’m no tree scientist, but this little trick has helped us bring home a perfectly full, fluffy tree every year, even when everything looks the same all tied up on the racks.
Our tree this year is ~6’ at the widest part of the tree and the trunk had ~6” diameter.
AND—while we’re talking Christmas prep—if you buy new lights every year because you can’t remember what’s what when you unbox them… here’s a game-changer:
On each strand, label:
• The year they were new
• Indoor/outdoor or indoor-only
• Bulb count
• How many strands can safely connect
• Optional: where you use them (front door, big tree, dining room mini tree, etc.)
A tiny bit of prep + one simple tree-lot trick = a smoother, happier, way less stressful holiday season. 🎄🎁🎉
Here’s to full, fluffy trees and lights that don’t make you lose your mind...so you can focus on what truly matters this holiday season 😉🎄✨
