Class of 2027, you are awesome! Students took the PAEA PACKRAT exam today, which is an objective, comprehensive self-assessment tool for student and curricular evaluation. This is a national exam administered by PAEA.
And how well did our students perform?
Spectacularly!!! Wingate students exceeded the national average by 9 points. They also exceeded the national average in 11 of 13 content areas, and by double-digit margins in two areas. They exceeded the national average in all 7 task areas. This is an amazing way to close out your didactic year! Be proud of what you accomplished today!

It's Thursday . . . and that means patient assessment lab day! Today's assessment involved the study of pediatrics. What better way to learn how to treat children than to practice on children! Several faculty members and PA alumni with young children volunteered their youngsters to be our patients today. We did forget one important thing - lollipops for the kids after their assessments! Let's hope they agree to return next summer, and we promise not to forget the lollipops!

PA Legislative Day 2026 was exciting and busy! A group of faculty and students visited NC Legislators in Raleigh on June 3, along with other students and faculty from various NC programs. A heartfelt thank you to our legislators for passing House Bill 67 which reforms the healthcare workforce to combat medical deserts and alleviates provider shortages. The WUPA team met with Representatives Jennifer Balkom and Jake Johnson, and Senator Mark Hollo. We were welcomed warmly, and appreciate that our NC legislators took time out of their busy schedule to meet with us. WUPA also addressed two important items: a title change from "Physician Assistant" to "Physician Associate" in NC, which has been passed in four states, and pending legislation in two states; and the importance of specifically naming the PA profession in healthcare legislation, workforce programs, and regulatory language. This day is another method of learning how to advocate for NC patients and improving how healthcare is delivered state-wide.

Congratulations to the Class of 2025 for obtaining a 97% first-time PANCE pass rate! And for exceeding the national average of 91%! The Wingate PA faculty and staff are very proud of our students and their success in becoming PA-C's. Since its inception, our program has achieved a 100% PANCE pass rate, meaning every one of our graduates has passed the PANCE on their first or subsequent attempt. A huge thank you to our faculty who educate our students, and our clinical partners who train our students!

Wingate PA students had an exciting and busy day this past Friday! Our Hendersonville clinical students and Blue Ridge Community College 2nd year nursing students participated in an Interprofessional Education Simulation. Students work independently at various stations where life-like healthcare situations are simulated. Students were assigned to stations, such as OR, ED, surgery, ICU, or urgent care, to care for mock patients who had been assigned symptoms and "injuries." Students then had to evaluate the patients and work together to develop a treatment plan. Wingate faculty, Dr. Nicole Drake and Dr. Taylor Fischer, and Blue Ridge faculty observed and helped facilitate the event, ensuring students were learning proper procedures. Students were fortunate to have several Wingate clinical preceptors helping also! A huge thank you to UNC Health Pardee for sponsoring lunch and The Greens of Hendersonville for sponsoring breakfast. Just another day of training the future providers in our community!
