This year, staff members have the opportunity to nominate students who exemplify our Capturing Kids' Hearts Character Traits. For August and September, we are celebrating students who demonstrate Empathy. 💙

Our very first student nominee of the school year is Paxton Goyer! 🎉

Attendance can also impact abbreviated schedules, graduation, field trips/extra curricular events, and final exemptions. Take a few minutes to look over the student handbook which can be found on the district website under the document section.

Every day counts. Every Viking counts. 💙

Did you know that missing just 10% of the school year… about 18 days, can make a student chronically absent?

And those 18 days don't have to happen all at once. A few days here, a few days there, and suddenly missed learning, missed connections and missed opportunities begin to add up.

Chronic absenteeism matters because students need to be in school to fully experience school. Being present gives students consistent opportunities to learn, build relationships, participate, receive support and make progress toward their goals. Research shows that chronic absence can be an early warning sign that a student is getting off track academically.

But this isn't about blame. It's about partnership. We know there are many reasons students miss school, and when attendance becomes a challenge, our goal is to understand the barriers and work together to support students and families.

This school year, let's make every day count.
