Our littles (ages 4-5) steal the show every year at the recital! Do you know a little one ages 4-5 who would love to dance and shine on stage? Dear Dancers and Families,

Recital can be stressful (believe me, I know better than anyone!) because of the details to keep track of and the pressure of performance, etc. But remember--the key word is CELEBRATION. The recital is not a test or competition or hurdle or trial or any other kind of ordeal. It is not a thing to "get through" or "survive." It is a celebration to enjoy.

The hardest work--the growth it takes to have something to bring to the stage--is already done! Now is the time for dancers and their families to reflect, to feel good, to enjoy, and to CELEBRATE.

We put on the costumes and makeup and fix our hair and go to a special place like the auditorium to acknowledge how special our talents are. How they deserve all the extras for this one culminating experience of the year. When we put on our special makeup, jewelry, hair, costumes, and step into the dreamlike lights of the stage in front of people we love as well as perfect strangers, we tell OURSELVES: this is special. What I can do is special. *I* am special.

A message from Mr Jesse:

Dear Dancers and Families,
At the stage rehearsal tonight, I was positively overwhelmed by the display of dedication, talent, passion, and love for performing that I saw in so many of the dancers. "Proud" doesn't even begin to convey how I felt! From the littles who fearlessly stepped into the spotlight for the first time to the energetic jazz dances to the expressive and emotional lyrical pieces to the fun and ever-young adults, you reminded me so deeply, again and again, what I love about performance: putting your talent, your work, your perseverance, and your SELF on the stage, on display for the world to see. Thank you for what you gave tonight.
In my "day job" as a leadership consultant, I spend so much time teaching leaders and workplaces what talent looks like, how to recognize it, how to encourage and develop it. And I think I learned that from working with you all. You show me what courage, brilliance, and passion look like.
Our recital will be beautiful. Thank you.

Most of the adult class! (2 absent)

Did you know that, in addition to being a dance teacher, Mr Jesse is also a leadership coach and consultant?

When hearing that Mr Jesse was being flown to Iowa by Toyota Industries, one confused dancer asked, "What? Is he teaching cars how to dance?"

His other company, Jesse Katen Leadership Consultancy, provides nonprofits organizations, government agencies, and corporations with leadership development services.

Next week, for example, Mr Jesse will be starting a six-month program he's leading for senior leaders in healthcare, creating a workshop series for the Greater Binghamton Chamber of Commerce, and continuing to work with the Broome Department of Social Services.

Quite often, Mr Jesse works with executives, psychotherapists, engineering managers, AND little 4-5 year old dancers--all in the same day! Developing talent is what it's all about!

But on Wednesday, May 20, he will be the keynote speaker for the HCA (Helping Celebrate Abilities) annual dinner, which is why we will having our Wednesday classes on Sunday May 17 for this week only. Mr Jesse has done a lot of work to help professionals at HCA develop compassion and resiliency to better help the people in their care this year so this event will be very special.

Thank you for your patience! No matter what it is, Mr Jesse feels very lucky to love everything he does!
