Welcome to Ascent, Mrs. Sutherland!

Mrs. Sutherland joins our Student Services team as an Upper School SPED Teacher. She earned a degree from Grand Canyon University and is passionate about building relationships and helping students grow academically and as individuals.

Outside of school, she enjoys exploring new coffee shops, cooking, traveling, spending time outdoors, and serving in her church's college ministry.

We're excited to have Mrs. Sutherland on the Ascent team—join us in giving her a warm welcome!

Our summer improvement projects are well underway and on track to be completed before our Archers return for the new school year! Bathrooms, hallways, and classrooms are all getting a much needed update. Our goal is to create an environment that is not only functional, but also beautiful—a place where students can learn, grow, and flourish.

A heartfelt thank you to the dedicated crews working tirelessly behind the scenes to make these improvements possible!

Welcome to Ascent, Mr. McWhirter!

Mr. McWhirter earned his B.S. in Psychology with a minor in Philosophy from CSU and has experience in both psychology and education. Outside of work, he enjoys reading philosophy and poetic literature, hiking, traveling, and listening to podcasts. He and his wife, Annalise, recently welcomed their daughter, Ladelle, this June! They are members of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church.

Mr. McWhirter joins Ascent as our new Student Services Paraprofessional. Please join us in giving him a warm welcome!

I grow in places
others can’t,

where wind is high
and water scant.

I drink the rain,
I eat the sun;

before the prairie winds
I run.

I see, I sprout,
I grow, I creep,

and in the ice
and snow, I sleep.

On steppe or veld
or pampas dry,

beneath the grand,
enormous sky,

I make my humble,
bladed bed.

And where there’s level ground,
I spread.

An ode to our vibrant, new field—and to the wonder of watching life take root and flourish.

We can’t wait to see our students running, playing, and learning in this glorious green field in the weeks ahead!

Beautifully Human: The Power of Classical Learning A lot goes into making a decision about school. As parents today consider what is best for their children’s holistic formation, many important questions rise to the surface.

We are thrilled to celebrate our very own 12th-grade student, Charlize Wardle, who won the Colorado high school division of the American Heroes Student Art Contest!

Charlize was honored in Washington, DC, as Freedom 250 and the National Endowment for the Humanities recognized state and territory winners from across the nation.

The nationwide contest was part of the commemoration of America’s 250th anniversary, inviting students to choose one of nearly 250 historical figures and explore that person’s significance through original artwork and an artist statement. More than 1,000 entries were submitted and judged by artists, historians, educators, and other experts.
