Tired of hearing only crickets during what could be a valuable class discussion? Try providing a participation rubric directly ahead of the discussion, and then asking students to honestly self-evaluate at the end. In our experience, this can help facilitate active, thoughtful participation-- and the student self-evaluations are pretty spot-on. Attached is our rubric for upper-level Spanish; please feel free to share in the comments if you have one for a different level (or language đŸ˜‰).

Anyone who has tried it knows: teaching virtually is a whole new ballgame. Everything--from taking attendance to delivering content and grading assignments-- has a new learning curve. Even veteran teachers find themselves back at square one, or perhaps even square zero. Our goal at DLTT is to share tools, strategies, and processes that will help streamline the most time-consuming elements of distance teaching so we can focus on the main objective: distance learning.

Try sharing your screen to let them know how you are monitoring their efforts.

Keep students engaged throughout your presentation! If you haven't yet tried Kahoot! with your online learners, now is the time. Import your slides and intersperse interactive questions: multiple choice, true/false, sorting, fill-in, and word cloud.

Make learning awesome together! Kahoot! for schools is our new offering that helps teachers collaborate, save time and create more engaging games.
