I was so blessed to go with Colorado Adventure Mom and a new friend, Laura, to hike the Horsetooth Mountain trail yesterday! My son brought a couple of his friends from SLA to join in the fun! Nature, friends, good conversation....Can life get any better?π
What are some recent adventures you've been on with your loved ones? π
(And I have no idea how I change my identity to me....Joy Scharmen Wheeler!)

Happy National Teacher Day! Who was your favorite teacher and why?βοΈπ
Today is the first day of Mental Health Awareness Month! We want to know what you do for your mental health. One thing that we do at SLA is meet weekly after our children's classes are done for a mom's class. Having a group of women teaching, supporting, and strengthening each other is important for our mental health.

"All men who have turned out worth anything have had the chief hand in their own education." - Sir Walter Scott
Welcome new homeschooling, thinking about homeschooling, and veteran homeschooling families!! We are happy to have you!
You would probably like some basic information about SLA and what we do! So, without further ado, we'll start with some common questions you may have!
How is SLA different from a typical homeschooling co-op?
We meet once a week, but it's more than an enrichment program. We teach the students HOW to think, help them realize that they have a mission to perform, and promote growth through various projects. We don't have a statement of faith, but we are a Christ-centered school. We are set up like a part-time private school.
What ages is the school for?
SLA is for the whole family, moms and dads included! In fact, we have a mom's class that meets weekly! Moms need to light their fire too!
Typically, we group by age groups:
Core: 18 months to 7 years
Love of Learning: 8-12 years
Scholar: 12-17 years
Is there a cost?
Yes. We are a volunteer non-profit organization. Like private schools, our funding comes from tuition and fundraisers and small donations. Cost depends on what is entailed in the class. We keep fees to the actual cost of the classes and expenses. No more. There is a $50 registration fee each semester per family for training. Rent is $30 per child per semester. Core class is typically free. Love of Learning can be anywhere from $20-100 per semester depending on the class. Scholar classes are $50-100 per semester again depending on the class.
Who are the teachers?
Parents are either teachers or assistants. In some cases, youth can be approved to teach. All teachers are trained for the specific class they are teaching.
