Thanks for the kind words, Connie! "Being a Speech/Language Therapist and a Special Education Coordinator in the Beaufort County Schools I had the privilege to work closely with Dr. Trexler for many years. She was a resource teacher who remediated students with learning disabilities, students with autism and on the spectrum, students of a second language, and students who were just plain struggling. Dr. Trexler had the unique ability to unlock their learning difficulties by building on their strengths and remediating their weakness. She worked with the whole student addressing character traits and responsibilities which are key to academic achievement. If Ms. Trexler tutors your child you will see positive gains." -Connie Johnson

How I Work

1. Initial consultation: We'll start with a chat over the phone or in person to discuss the current situation and your child's immediate and long-term goals. This will help us understand what you're looking for in terms of tutoring and how we can best help your child.

2. Gathering information: We'll gather any testing, feedback, or instructions from your child's school and teachers to get a better idea of their strengths and weaknesses.

3. Reviewing student information: We'll review your child's academic records, including any Individualized Education Programs (IEP), to understand their learning needs. If available, we'll also review any results from the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) assessment to get an idea of your child's current academic standing.

4. In-person assessment: If no recent assessments are available, we may use the MAP or IXL assessments to identify areas where your child may have knowledge gaps. The MAP assessment measures academic progress and growth, while IXL is an online learning platform that provides personalized recommendations based on a student's performance.

5. Developing a personalized tutoring plan: Based on the information we've gathered, we'll develop a personalized tutoring plan that addresses your child's specific needs and goals. This may include targeted instruction in areas where they need improvement, homework help, or test preparation.

6. Ongoing support: We'll meet with your child as needed to ensure they're progressing at a pace that's satisfying to them, you, and their school. We'll adjust the tutoring plan as necessary to ensure they're getting the most out of their tutoring sessions. If your child has an IEP, we'll work with you and their school to ensure that our tutoring aligns with their IEP goals.

Parents often feel left out and confused about their child's education. As a tutor, I aim to answer any questions parents and students have honestly and quickly. Many problems students have in school result from knowledge gaps and a lack of confidence. Identifying these needs will let your student shine.
