The Electrathon TSA car is complete! Thank you to Mr. Mitchell for guiding these students as they created this car from scratch! Also, thanks to Mr. McElheny for his help in making the decals for the car. Wyatt Morris and Quinn Bellville will be driving the car for the TSA State Leadership Conference - Electrathon at Road Atlanta on March 18th.

The goal of this car is to travel as far as possible on 1kilowatt hour of energy (equivalent of 0.03 Gallons of gasoline). MPGe >1500

It was built from common bicycle and hardware store components in 4 weeks for only a few hundred dollars!

📸 Healthcare College & Career Day Highlights!

We had an incredible day exploring healthcare pathways with students from AHS, BASA, and WBHS! A huge thank‑you to Lanier Technical College for partnering with us to make this event possible.

Students had the opportunity to:
🩺 Participate in classroom demonstrations
💬 Learn from a panel of healthcare professionals
🏥 Explore Lanier Tech’s healthcare programs
🔬 Ask questions, practice skills, and discover future career options

Events like this help our students see what’s possible—and today, they truly stepped into their future.

Newcomer students are loving learning and cooking in Culinary with Chef Joseph. Last week, Alex helped Chef prepare, cook, and serve lunch for the BCSS Board Training!

Engineering students started from the ground up and hand built an ultra light Electrathon EV for the state TSA competition in March! The goal is to go as far as possible in 1 hour with a 1kW battery. Today was their first day of power and testing. Next week, they will begin aerodynamic body work!

🎉Huge congratulations to Ms. Katlyn LaVelle Thomas on being selected as the Sims Academy Teacher of the Year finalist! She’ll now move on to compete with finalists from AIM and Horizon for Program Teacher of the Year!

Today we celebrated Ms. Phillips and an incredible career filled with dedication. She will truly be missed, but we are so thankful for the positive impact she’s made on our school community.

Due to another chance for inclement weather, the Saturday Dual Enrollment meeting for parents and students has been rescheduled to February 7th at 9AM in the Performing Arts Center (PAC). Thanks!

Update: Due to more inclement weather, the meeting has been postponed again to Feb. 7th at 9AM in the Performing Arts Center (PAC).

The Dual Enrollment meeting originally scheduled for 1/24 has been postponed until 1/31/26 at 9AM due to weather.

Interested in becoming a veterinarian? 🩺

UGA VetCAMP 2026 is a week-long residential program for high school students (16+) interested in veterinary careers.

Dates: May 31 – June 6, 2026
Location: UGA College of Veterinary Medicine, Athens
Cost: $1,000 (includes lodging, meals, activities)
Deadline: January 20th

Students will gain hands-on experience in labs, tour facilities, and learn about vet school admissions. Please share this with students who may be interested and encourage them to apply soon.
