Hunter was introduced to kayaking through the coastal waters of southeast Georgia in his youth and has been on the water ever since. Moving up to north Georgia in 2019, his passion only grew for the sport and led to the creation of the Facebook group, Kayak Georgia, in 2020! The following year, some group members got together and gifted him a brand new whitewater boat, which turned out to be one of the most influential and important turning points in his life. The rest is history as they say and he's always had a deep affection for sharing that enjoyment with others, guiding and teaching on some of the Southeast's most beloved waterways over the past 4 years!

Stroke timing is just as important as every other aspect of paddling. Practicing consistency will help you up your game!

Phases of Boof Stroke Timing:

The Approach: Use your vision to lock on to the target. Gain some speed using your paddle and core muscles to achieve the proper boat angle. This will allow you to counter the currents momentum.

The Plant: Put the blade fully in the water up by your feet. Do not wait until it is next to your seat, or you will lose power and slap the water.

The Power: Just as you come upon the lip, edge, rock or drop. Lean forwards, then pull straight back alongside the kayak using your torso and core muscles, not just your arms, while lifting your knees and thrusting your hips.

The Exit: Take the blade out of the water right as it reaches your hip. Pulling past your hip can act like a brake and turn the boat off-line.

The Rhythm: Unwind one side as you wind up the other. Again, keep a steady pace to hold your momentum against the currents.
