Halfway Highlights: Learning and Laughing at Huntland Summer Camp!
We are officially two weeks down, two weeks to go, and the Huntland Summer School Camp is absolutely buzzing! We are at the halfway mark of our four-week adventure, and our students have already packed in a summer’s worth of hands-on discovery, academic growth, and unforgettable memories.
Here is a look at what we've been up to during our first two weeks of fun in the sun!
🦋 Science with a Side of Sweetness
Science has come alive over the last fortnight through interactive projects that got everyone’s hands dirty—and occasionally a little sticky!
Butterfly Feeders: Campers crafted custom butterfly feeders and hung them high in the trees to welcome our fluttering friends. Of course, human curiosity got the best of a few brave souls who attempted to test the recipe, trying to catch a drop of the sugar-water nectar directly in their mouths!
Extreme Weather: Inside the classroom, students have been reading all about the wild world of extreme weather. The grand finale? Creating a roaring "tornado in a bottle" to see the mechanics of a vortex up close.
📚 Brain Power: Reading, Math, and RTI
While we’re making the most of the beautiful weather, we are also keeping our minds razor-sharp with creative math challenges and deep dives into literature.
Stuart Little Adventures: Our rising 4th graders have jumped headfirst into reading the classic novel, Stuart Little! They are having a blast following the big adventures of the charming, tiny mouse while strengthening their reading comprehension skills.
RTI Anywhere and Everywhere! Response to Intervention (RTI) hasn't been confined to a traditional, stuffy classroom these past two weeks. We’ve been taking our learning outside and into the breezeway, catching some beautiful fresh air while we sharpen our skills! Whether practicing in the shade of a tree or collaborating outdoors, learning happens everywhere here.
☀️ One-on-One and Fun in the Sun!
The true secret to these first two weeks has been our dedication to personalized, one-on-one attention. Every student is getting the individual support they need to thrive, building both confidence and skills. From targeted academic coaching in the breeze to high-fives on the playground, we are perfectly balancing hard work with pure, sun-drenched fun.
We are incredibly proud of our students' hard work so far. If the first two weeks were this amazing, we can't wait to see what the final two weeks of summer camp bring. Stay tuned!

🌺☀️ What an AMAZING first week of Summer Learning! ☀️🌺
Students and staff at the Rock Creek Summer Camp Site kicked off the summer in true luau style! The week started with smiles, high energy, and immense excitement as we welcomed our students into a fun, engaging learning environment.
📚 On Tuesday, we were thrilled to welcome members of Estill Naz as guest readers. We are incredibly grateful for their partnership and their generosity in providing snacks for all of our summer school students.
🐾 Students also enjoyed a special visit from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, who brought their K-9 unit for an engaging demonstration. Our students loved learning about the important role these highly trained dogs play in keeping our community safe.
Thank you to our community partners, staff, and families for helping make the first week of summer learning such a success. We can’t wait to see what the rest of the summer has in store!

We are incredibly proud to share FCHS’s recognition from APAA for its outstanding commitment to expanding educational opportunities through rigorous AP (Advanced Placement) coursework. 👏🏼
For anyone unfamiliar, AP courses are college-level classes taught right in high school. They give students a chance to tackle challenging, advanced material and take an exam at the end of the year. Passing that exam can actually earn them college credits, saving time and tuition money down the road! 🎓💰
Through their partnership with AP Access for ALL and The Niswonger Foundation, Franklin County High School is ensuring that a student’s zip code does not determine their academic ceiling. FCHS describes these courses as “game changers” for creating greater equity, flexibility, and opportunity.
Thank you, Franklin County High School, for your dedication to supporting student success and leveling the playing field! ✨
