Excited to share that I had the great honor of co-authoring a chapter for this soon-to-be-released Vocology book! Each chapter gives a brief overview of how vocalization affects individual systems of the body. Our chapter discusses the nervous system, with special consideration of the vagus nerve, of course. Keep an eye out for more information soon! The best part is the connection our research group made, and now we continue to collaborate, present our work, and support each other. is a very special organization! Happy singing! 🎶

Are you “belt-curious”? As a performer or voice teacher, has this term made you a little nervous? Let’s talk about it and set the record straight! ‘Belt’ is a quality of voice, not a register.

This 90 minute virtual workshop will take you through the history of belt, some basic vocal anatomy, and strategies for finding and sustaining that thrilling and emotional part of your range!

Whether you’re aiming for Broadway, the recording studio, or the drivers seat of your car, we will solve some mysteries and face our fears!

Follow the link in bio to chat about it and/or register!
Hope to see you soon!

Have you watched “20 Feet From Stardom”? It’s so good!

It’s a documentary about the backup singers heard on some of the greatest hits of all time. I jotted down this quote from Stevie Wonder when I watched it back in 2013, and share it with students regularly.

So here’s a little reminder from Stevie to be present and joyful in your song! 🎶🌟🎶

In the voice and singing world, we sometimes get so wrapped up in definitions. As much miscommunication and controversy as this can cause, it is necessary to define the words we use regularly in order to have conversations at all.

Here are my definitions of three words that we use all of the time:

“warm-up”

“exercise”

“practice”

In my brain there are big differences between the three and we should be careful using them interchangeably.

How do you differentiate and define these terms? Please comment below!

In honor of World Voice Day, I’d like to announce my summer offers for this year! I have a few months of transition time before starting my new position as a contemporary voice faculty at St. Olaf college. This puts me in a unique position of opening more space in the studio temporarily.

Are you looking to brush up, focus in, or shake up your voice work? Now’s the time!

All lessons are conveniently on zoom, with 24/7 access to additional resources and material in the virtual studio. There will be a monthly class to keep that community “studio” feel! I’d love to sing with you! Put that tax refund to good use! 😜 🎶

Working on those daily habits!
How are you doing in the new year?
I have a very busy semester coming up, so scheduling and checking in with my habits has become a top priority! Especially in these winter months, full of icky sickies everywhere!
Take care of yourself, everybody! Stay well.
