In April, a group of Shenandoah students attended and presented their research at the Virginia Section of the American Chemical Society’s meeting at the University of Virginia. Students also visited UVA’s chemistry department laboratories and learned about the chemistry graduate programs. Recent graduate Sophia Menyhart ’26 (Bachelor of Science in biology), pictured second from left in the top photo, also received an Outstanding Senior in Chemistry Research award from the ACS. In March, Menyhart traveled to San Antonio, Texas, for Pittcon, the world’s largest international analytical spectroscopy conference, where she presented two original research projects in chemistry and biology. Shenandoah University has been named a 2026-27 College of Distinction, marking the seventh straight year that it has earned the designation reserved for colleges and universities who remain committed to the undergraduate student experience!
This recognition signifies Shenandoah’s adherence to what Colleges of Distinction calls its Four Distinctions: Engaged Students, Great Teaching, Vibrant Community, and Successful Outcomes. Rather than relying on endowment figures or selectivity rates, Colleges of Distinction conducts in-depth research and direct interviews with each institution, selecting only those whose campuses reflect a genuine, student-first philosophy.
