There's so much great stuff happening this time of year, including RDC Theater's summer intensive showcase. This Saturday afternoon and Sunday evening. Ages from incoming 7th graders to outgoing high school seniors are represented. We can't have great theater at the high school without great theater at the middle school, so come support these kids!

We had a great time at our watch party for the Jimmy Awards last night. There was a lot of love in the room--for McKinley, for music theater, and for each other.
It's a special group because what ultimately brings these kids together for this sort of thing is an appreciation for a way of making art that is rooted in humanity, hard work, kindness, joy, and inclusion. A knowledge that theater is worth it for the day in and day out thrill of being creative, connecting with friends new and old, and taking pride in something in which you have put your best effort. That humans have a fundamental need to create for reasons that have nothing to do with awards, competitions, and rankings. From caves to concert halls, from choir rooms to concentration camps, people have found their way through song, dialogue, poetry, scultpure, movement, and on and on.
Oh, these kids will recieve lots of accolades in the years to come. They're just that talented, smart, and hard working. But spend five minutes in rehearsal with them and you'll see that larger things are at play behind their eyes. Things that have made and will continue to make our community--small and large--forever better.

Watch party! This Monday, June 22 at 7:30 p.m. is the Jimmy Awards, featuring our own McKinley Harper (and hosted by Bowen Yang)! We'll be streaming it at GRC on the big screen, so let's get together and make an evening of it. Mr. Olson will have the doors open by 7:00. Bring your friends and family, and let's show McKinley our support from afar as she represents GRC on the Great White Way.

Yep, you read that right! Our own McKinley Harper won the Bradley Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role! She will now move on to the Jimmy Awards in New York City this June. To say we are proud is an understatement.
Congratulations to ALL our GRC nominees (Addison, Gillian, and everyone a part of Technical Ex*****on) and everyone involved in putting on such a great production of Urinetown. It was such a fun, rewarding experience, and we can't wait to make great art with you next year.
Finally, congratulations to every nominee and production across the Kentuckiana region. It's an honor to be in your company, and your work inspires us.

We're proud to share that "Urinetown" has been nominated for four Bradley Awards!
•Outstanding Technical Ex*****on
•Outstanding Student Designer - Gillian McClellan
•Best Actress in a Supporting Role - Addison Taylor
•Best Actress in a Leading Role - McKinley Harper
Congratulations to everyone who had a hand in making these nominations possible, not to mention putting on one heck of a show. In addition to the individuals named above, the Outstanding Technical Ex*****on nomination speaks to an incredible amount of teamwork and broad-based achievement since that category's criteria encompasses sound, lighting, set pieces, stage management, props, costumes, and scene transitions.
A huge shout-out to EVERY school, student, and teacher across the state who entered into this process. The list of deserving winners in each category is so long. We're honored to be in your company.
