Shenandoah University and Yangtze Normal University welcomed the inaugural Class of 2030 to their Sino-foreign cooperative education programs during an opening ceremony in September 2026.

Shenandoah University President Tracy Fitzsimmons, Ph.D., joined the ceremony virtually, while Dean of SU Asia Yvonne Chen, Ph.D., led Shenandoah’s delegation in person. YZNU Vice President Wen Wu, Ph.D., administrators and faculty from the Yangtze Normal’s School of Robotics Engineering, and 170 newly admitted students also attended.

In April, Shenandoah and Yangtze Normal announced a landmark partnership through which the universities established two dual-degree bachelor’s degrees in engineering physics and computer engineering that launched in Fall 2026.

Dr. Wu described September’s opening ceremony as both the beginning of the students’ university journeys and a new chapter in the partnership between the two institutions. Over the four-year program, he said, students will experience different approaches to teaching and learning in China and the United States, strengthening their judgment and learning to engage thoughtfully across different perspectives.

Through the Shenandoah University and Laurel Ridge Community College co-enrollment program, LRCC students grow more familiar with all that Shenandoah offers both in and outside the classroom, and begin their progression to earning a bachelor’s degree at Shenandoah.

Co-enrolled students pay community college tuition for up to three Shenandoah courses, and can participate in Shenandoah University student organizations, Shenandoah University Marching Band, and campus events. SU/LRCC co-enrolled students also receive Shenandoah ID cards and email addresses.

Each year, the Shenandoah University Alumni Association honors deserving alumni with the Distinguished Alumni Awards. To be selected, alumni must make significant achievements in their chosen profession; contribute to the betterment of their community, state, nation, or the world; or demonstrate ongoing dedication to the university.

From building the foundation of our program to cheering on today’s student-athletes, Paula’s passion for the game and team spirit are as strong as ever. Passing the torch, sharing stories, and celebrating the strong line of legacy that ties every generation of players together, this is what Homecoming is all about.

Thank you for making our Homecoming and Family Weekend such a wonderful celebration of Shenandoah – past, present and future.

The Class of 1976 gathered for its 50th reunion and our distinguished alumni honorees received awards. Graduates of all eras, students, and Shenandoah families enjoyed our Homecoming football and women's volleyball games (and tailgates!), performances, family activities, Wi******er-area excursions, and a stunning fireworks display that sparkled and shone almost as much as our current students and alumni.

We broke ground on an expansion of the James R. Wilkins, Jr. Athletics and Events Center, took part in the grand opening of a renovated (and soon to expand) Allen Dining Hall, and so much more.

Main campus buzzed with excitement and with the anticipation of things to come, such as the new Dove Center for the Arts (its construction will be well underway for next year’s Homecoming festivities). It was truly a great weekend to be a Hornet.

Shenandoah University broke ground on an expansion of the James R. Wilkins Jr. Athletics and Events Center on Friday, a project which will create a new locker room for the school's football team and additional locker room space for the Hornets' track and field and cross country teams. ⬇
