Virginia Avenue Charlotte DeHart Elementary School

This year in STEM, our fourth graders took a deep dive into mastering the "5 Cs": critical thinking, collaboration, cultural citizenship, communication, and creativity. Students beautifully synthesized all of these core skills for their final project: designing and engineering their very own functional pinball machines. From brainstorming creative themes and utilizing critical thinking to map out complex obstacle physics, to practicing seamless communication and collaboration within their teams, they truly brought their ideas to life. Furthermore, by embracing cultural citizenship, they ensured their games were inclusive, accessible, and engaging for all of their peers. We had such a wonderful fourth grade celebration today. The school was packed. The kids did great and the families were amazing. Thank you for entrusting us with your most valuable assets, your children. I feel blessed to be at VACDES every single day. Thank you and best of luck to the Handley Class of 2034! This past school year, our PreK friends at VACDES had the pleasure of working with Ms. Addison, our Occupational Therapy intern from the Emil & Grace Shihadeh Innovation Center. Today, she completed her last day with us, and we are so sad to see her go. Ms. Addison was a former graduate of Virginia Avenue herself, and in a few short weeks, she will be walking the steps at Handley High School for the last time as a WPS student! Congratulations, and thank you so much, Ms. Addison!

A huge shot out to The Home Depot! They came and gave our courtyard a big refresh. We have raised beds of flowers and vegetables. They added mulch and they planted flowers in the pots. Thank you for making this space awesome for students and staff!

🎉 Spring Attendance Challenge Winners!

VACDES students celebrated their success today as the Spring Attendance Challenge champions! Their well-earned reward included delicious Sugar Creek snow cones 🍧 and fun face painting 🎨 provided by Handley’s Interact Club.
