Congratulations to Blakely Lawrence who placed 2nd place for his piano solo “Menuetto al Fresco” by Tom Gerou at the James Bland Scholarship Contest last week!

The Wi******er Host Lions Club is pleased to host the James Bland Scholarship Contest for our area in 2026. The contest is named for James Bland, the writer of our former Virginia State Song, “Carry Me Back to Old Virginny”. The Bland Contest offers an opportunity for students who study privately to share their achievements in a contest setting.

Congratulations to all of these students who scored “Superior” for piano festival with the Federation of Music Clubs, Shenandoah Valley Music Club! We had the last of the students E2 and higher play this week and today! Keep up the good work! I’m so proud of you!

Congratulations to our outstanding Sherando Band students who were selected to participate in the Mid-Atlantic Honor Band this past weekend at Shenandoah University!

The Mid-Atlantic Honor Band at Shenandoah Conservatory brings together exceptional student musicians from across the Mid-Atlantic region for an immersive experience focused on high-level ensemble performance and masterclass instruction. Throughout the weekend, students had the opportunity to collaborate with a featured guest composer, learn from distinguished guest clinicians, and work closely with the Shenandoah Conservatory faculty.

We are incredibly proud of our students for representing Sherando with excellence, dedication, and musicianship. Our students are pictured with guest composer, Viet Cuong, SU Director of Bands, Timothy Robblee, and SU Director of Athletic Bands, Shaun Evans.

Thank you to all 11 students who played for the Christmas recital at Spring Arbor Assisted Living and Memory Care. You did a wonderful job and I’m so proud of you! Thank you to the families who helped donate items for the gift bags and for all the students who made cards. The residents are looking forward to you playing for them again soon! Parents, feel free to add more photos in comments or tag me on your photos, because I never take enough pictures!
