🌿 **The Wild is Calling... Is a Comeback in Order?** 🌿
✨To our wonderful community: *Primitive Instincts Youth Nature Program* is dreaming of returning!✨

🏕️ After starting a family of my own, that deep pull to teach outdoors has returned. My heart is right back where it started: creating a space where children, families, and adults can grow through natural sciences, art, social-emotional learning, and primitive survival skills. 🔥

🌻 For this next chapter, we’re looking at utilizing local municipal parks to practice active environmental stewardship. Today, I scouted Stokes Park in San Marcos—with the San Marcos River running through it, cool spring-fed water for wading, and incredible flora and fauna, my heart is completely inspired! 🌼

💭 We are dreaming up a brand-new schedule of events and classes for **adults, families, and kids**. 🫶🏼

🔥 Survival 101 - June 2 - June 6

Primitive Instincts YNP is a small, unique outdoor nature program.
For summer camp, kids ages 5-13 are invited to discover art, science, as well as primitive and survival skills on 11.5 private beautiful acres. We’ll also play awareness games, climb trees, cool off in the saltwater pool, and connect to the outdoors. Don’t miss out on all the fun!

🌟 Drop off, M-F; 9:30 AM-3:30 PM
🌟 Saltwater pool to swim in every afternoon!
🌟 Every Friday experience archery and art!
🌟 Sibling and multi-week enrollment discounts offered.
🌟 Payment plans offered.

Small but mighty!

🐢 Red Eared Sliders will travel away from water, up to 200m away, in order to lay her eggs. I found this mama in a sandy parking lot about to lay her eggs for the season, a good distance away from the comfort of the nearby creek. They like to dig a shallow nest in sand, lay 2-30 oval soft-shelled eggs, then bury them into the sand.

🦋 Monarch butterflies are amazing! They rely on milkweed as their host plant, such as the Antelope Horn Milkweed in the photos. After migrating from Mexico during the winter, they travel north. They make stops along the way, such as Texas, to find milkweeds to lay their eggs on. When monarch caterpillars hatch, they are on their host plant which makes birds really sick when they eat monarch caterpillars or butterflies. Milkweeds have a toxin in them that doesn’t hurt the caterpillars or butterflies, but instead gives them their defense mechanism! They’re also travelers, traveling 1,500 or more miles during migration!

🗺️ Navigation is super important to familiarize yourself with! 🧭
During Adventure Survivalist Summer Camp week, students learned how to walk paces, how to read a compass, and how to find cardinal directions with and without a compass.

Ms. Cat set up a treasure hunt where kids had to follow clues with directions, that were placed in Easter eggs and hidden. The directions had a set number of paces along with either a cardinal direction or degrees/azimuths. The kids were very successful!! At the end, they recieved their own safety whistle and ranger beads. Ranger beads help keep a record of the number of paces made, which Ms. Cat handmade herself with glow-in-the-dark beads!!!

Primitive Instincts Youth Nature Program is where it’s at! No other nature program has a fully encompassing curriculum and allows kids to experience a wide range of skills in a safe environment!!

🏕️🔥During Adventure Survivalist Summer Camp week, we did a simple science experiment to show why we should wear light colored clothing, such as white, as opposed to wearing dark colored clothing, such as black, during the hot summer months.🥼☀️
