Wildlife rehab rule #1: If there’s a warm pile, join it.

One of these babies is not like the others! 🦨🐰 We have shared it before, but when babies come into our intake center, we like to pair them up in incubators so they can snuggle together and stay warm until they get taken to our rehab center and separated with their same species and age. Leave it to the cottontails to instantly snuggle with the lone skunk kit. Safety comes in numbers!

Many young animals naturally form cuddle puddles to conserve heat and feel safe. It’s especially common with ducklings, opossums, foxes, squirrels, cottontails, skunks and even owl siblings in the nest. 🥰🦆🦉🦊🐿️

Join us for our next offering in the Land.Water.Connection Educational Series, on April 25th at The Meadows Center for Water & the Environment!

This conversation will focus on One Water principles, rainwater harvesting, and the evolving strategies needed to navigate the ongoing drought and water challenges shaping life across Texas.

🌱We’re honored to learn alongside Dr. Robert Mace, Executive Director of the Meadows Center for Water & the Environment, Jenna Walker, Director of Watershed Studies, and Desiree Jackson, Science & Stakeholder Engagement Specialist.

They will offer their unique insights from a statewide rainwater harvesting study, including how geography influences collection potential and long-term water security, and the human side of stewardship through the Blanco Cypress Watershed Protection Plan and broader One Water initiatives.

🌳The morning will close with the option to step into the landscape itself, through a glass-bottom boat tour or guided walk through the Spring Lake wetlands, connecting the conversation back to the living systems that sustain our region.
