Did you know that while there is a profile for dyslexia, no two dyslexics present precisely the same way?

Dyslexia exists on a continuum of severity and can impact people differently, even within the same family. While decoding may be a struggle for one student with dyslexia, for another, spelling may be a focus, etc.

Understanding this leads us to the necessity of understanding the dyslexic profile better so that we may determine which instructional path will best serve the student. It allows us to be diagnostic in our approach to working with students and makes us think beyond the idea dyslexia only impacts reading.

The more we know, the better we can provide appropriate services to help all students meet their potential. 🦋

I recently saw a question posed about how to help a middle school student who continually made errors in vowel sound production when reading, even after interventions, and while I responded on the social media page, I also thought of a quick strategy that I have used for years with my older students and that it was was worth sharing.
