RememberMike.org https://www.facebook.com/RememberMike.org My younger brother Michael, passed away unexpectedly on February 7, 2011. He was known as "Mr. Harry S. Ross
Director

At Mike's Memorial service, we learned of his extraordinary life since his motorcycle accident, which occurred over 20 years ago. Mike suffered a traumatic brain injury, that required him to live in rehabilitation and long term care facilities since 1989. Once a year since 2003, Mike spent one week at Camp Wilderness Endeavor sponsored by the Brain Injury Association of Illinois(BIA). The BIA is a

not-for-profit, statewide membership organization comprised of people with brain injuries, family members, friends and professionals. The BIA is a subsidiary of the national Brain Injury Association, Inc. and is the only organization in Illinois serving individuals with TBI, their families and professionals who treat them. Camp Wilderness Endeavor is located on a lake in Central Illinois. Mike stayed overnight in a wood burning cabin and participated in: horseback riding, swimming, canoeing, archery, arts & crafts, sing-a-longs and much more! The week at camp gave Mike a much needed break from his normal routine and allowed him to participate in fun activities free of his wheelchair. Mike's personality truly came to life at camp. Sunshine" for his encouraging, happy and fun nature. Many more individuals could benefit from going to camp, but don't have the financial resources to do so. As a way to honor Mike's life and memory, RememberMike.org will encourage fundraising events to help send more people to camp. Philicia Deckard, Executive Director of the BIA of Illinois, had known Mike since 1990 and spoke at his Memorial service. Cash donations can be made by check payable to: Brain Injury Association of Illinois. Thank you for your support and for remembering Mike!

Someone sustains a brain injury every 9 seconds in the United States. Anytime, Anywhere, Anyone....it can happen to any one of us. There are more than a quarter million children and adults living in Illinois with disabilities from a brain injury. In reality, that number is much higher because many brain injuries go undiagnosed. In addition, there are military service members returning home to their communities with undiagnosed brain injuries.

Your contribution ensures we can continue providing programs and services to those whose lives have been impacted by brain injury. The Brain Injury Association of Illinois provides programs and services to those whose lives have been impacted by brain injury. An Information & Resource Call Center is available to offer information, resources and support to callers. The BIA Injury Prevention program is provided in the school and community settings, along with helmet distribution events. The Trauma Support program provides information and support along with trauma blanket distribution to children whose lives have been impacted by traumatic events. The BIA of Illinois has a therapeutic camp/recreational program for children and adults who have sustained a brain injury. A yearly educational conference is held each fall for injured individuals, caregivers, and professionals, as well as other community education events offered throughout the year. The Brain Injury Association of Illinois offers a national certification program for professionals working with those who have sustained a brain injury.

February is always a difficult month for me. It is the month that both my mother and younger brother Mike passed away, almost to the day, eight years apart. Mike has been gone 13 years and my mom 21 years. Hard to imagine so much time has passed. But their kindness and big hearts will always remain through the many happy memories they created. I miss them both and my dad too. He was the first to go just 15 months after Mike's accident.
